Which teams have the greatest succession of stars?

Post#1 » by moximus » Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:36 pm

I was thinking when the franchise stars either retire, get traded or due to injury, and subsequently a younger star is elevated to take his place. Which team has the best succession of star transition? I will give some example -

Alonzo Mourning -> Eddie Jones -> DWade
David Robinsion -> Tim Duncan -> Ginobili
Shaq -> Kobe
Jerry Stackhouse -> Iverson -> Iggy
McGrady -> Dwight Howard
Ray Allen -> Michael Redd -> Brandon Jenning
Brandon Roy -> LaMarcus Aldridge
Gilbert Arenas -> John Wall

What is your definition of "star"? Looks like you mean ticket seller.

Yeah. If we are talking history of a franchise, seems the Lakers are the runaway winner here.

George Mikan
Elgin Baylor
Jerry West
Wilt Chamberlain
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Magic Johnson
Shaquille O'Neal
Kobe Bryant

Pretty ridiculous list.

George Mikan->Vern Mikkelsen->Elgin Baylor->Jerry West->Wilt Chamberlain->Gail Goodrich->Kareem Abdul-Jabbar->Magic Johnson->James Worthy->Nick Van Exel/Eddie Jones/Cedric Ceballos->Shaquille O'Neal->Kobe Bryant

Red denotes Hall of Famers

Blue denotes future Hall of Famers

With this list, there are no gaps in years...it is truly a succession of stars.

In fact, look at this page:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAL/hof.html

The Lakers have only had one year in their entire history (1994-1995) without a Hall of Fame player on their roster.
