"They're not Carmelo", Ewing said laughing.

ORLANDO - Patrick Ewing included John Starks, Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell and Charles Oakley among the best sidekicks he had during his 15 seasons with the Knicks. All four helped Ewing reach the NBA Finals, all four became All-Stars and there is something else all four have in common.
"They're not Carmelo," Ewing said, laughing. "They're not Carmelo."
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-03 ... an-houstonGot me thinking. Ewing got very close to the title a couple of times in his career, despite never playing with another true star. How do you think the Knicks would have done if they had Dominique(another guy who never really had great teamates) instead of their starting SFs from 89-94?

Just so no one takes that out of context, even though it should be obvious he's being complimentary...
Ewing wrote:"New York hasn't had two bona fide superstars since Willis (Reed) and Earl (Monroe) and Clyde (Frazier)," Ewing added before the Magic would beat his old team, 116-110, Tuesday night. "And most of their (teammates) were superstars. Those guys are bona fide superstars."
He said that in the same article.

Umm... He had at least two pretty awesome years out of Moses... 20/12 and 19/10. You can argue fit and coaching and bench and stuff, and certainly that it's only two years, but it's not accurate to say he never had great teammates.
I may be nit-picking, though. Where "may" really means "definitely."

Moses way past his prime. Philly Webber was a 20/10 guy and they didnt even make the playoffs.

Philly Webber had all of his usual bad habits and no athleticism to back himself up. Atlanta Moses averaged 8+ FTA/g both seasons at 78%+ FT (actually closer to 8 and 9 FTA/g). And he did it at 58% and 56% TS, no less. And of course he averaged 21/12 in the playoffs that first year (they didn't make it the second of his three years there), on just under 61% TS.
Still wanna play that card?
I mean yeah, he wasn't 30 ppg Moses, but that's a damned fine player.

This isn't the premise of the article, so by quoting this, you may be taking things out of context.
Ewing was alluding in the entire article that having that elite wing in this case small forward is something he never had throughout his career, and wish he did.

He had a decent Moses for one year, the guy couldnt even crack 50% shooting. You can make the numbers say anything. Guy had been playing professional ball for 14 years at that point, going by the numbers you'd think he was close to prime Moses, but he wasn't anywhere near. The guy couldnt guard a chair and was going to get numbers because they were feeding him like no ones business. A superstar or prime Ewing he was not close to.

Patrick Ewing was a career loser whose team was good enough to make the finals without him. And he's lucky to have a teammate like Starks to deflect some of the blame on those choke jobs.

You do realise that without Ewing they wouldn't have gone past the first round right?

No doubt Knicks could have beaten Miami without Ewing.
