Wow, what a waste of an amnesty. Houston realizes they won't get another one until the next CBA, right?

I've always said that there was now an official definition of a bust- someone who was so bad that even on a rookie scale contract they didn't get their third or fourth year team options picked up or that they didn't get a qualifying offer when they hit free agency. But this gets added to the list- being amnestied when you are on a rookie scale contract no doubt puts him in the pantheon of busts.

I think the Sixers could ressurect his career. I mean, he's atleast as good as Spencer Hawes right?

The funny thing is that some team will probably place a bid even though Arenas and Billups go through without a bid... that's just what's gonna happen because all of those teams are young and would want to take a chance on Thabeet. No joke, I could see him in Minny.

He even though he's a scrub, he'll have his fair share of suitors.

Houston really doesn't have any other bad contracts. Other than Scola (@~8.5), Martin (@~11.5), and Lowry (@5.75), everyone else is on a rookie deal.

Why wouldn't a team under the cap place a bid on Thabeet to take a flier on him? I would not be upset if Cleveland is that team. Plus, maybe now he will realize that he has to try or else the paychecks will likely stop here.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

They don't have any bad contracts NOW but they might acquire one sometime in the next 10 years. It seems silly to waste it on a 5 million contract that the team can opt out of after this year.

They would and should. I'd bet a big amount of money that someone puts in a claim on him.

With some teams potentially struggling to hit the minimum payroll and so many trade exceptions about to expire I'm a little surprised that the Rockets weren't able to bribe someone to take him off the books. Presumably this is a precursor to a major free agent move where they needed the space now.

You can only use it on deals that were on your roster as of July 1st 2011. Teams can't trade for a player and then amnesty - and teams can't use it on new contracts.

Thabeet has not been amnestied. He had a great day in practice yesterday. The tweet was false. /thread

Well, that's certainly the RP MCmurphy way of looking at things.

did this guy ever get any type of "additional" training from a big man great? Bynum certainly improved with his training with Kareem but I dont think Kareem will be doing any work with LA anytime soon, he seems pretty sour with Lakers mgmt in addition to how Bynum sorta blew him off after the 1st couple of years.

Minnesota and Charlotte are logical spots and GS could be a dark horse
