Two GM's had thoughts of quitting after failed CP trade

Post#1 » by Transistor » Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:04 pm

According to Bill Simmons...Hornets GM Dell Demps and Rockets GM Darryl Morey thought about quitting after the botched CP3 trade.

"You have two front office executives that are thinking about quitting today - Dell Demps and Daryl Morey. Both of those guys are thinking about quitting right now because they spent 3 weeks working on this trade that fell through via veto that they didn't even know the league would think about vetoing this. I just think this is a catastrophe."

Countless wasted hours and not to mention bad blood among players who thought they would be traded, it really put all 3 teams in awkward situations (Hornets not so much now)

3 weeks working on a deal? Were they even allowed to discuss deals that far back?

Also hopefully Demps learned something as a GM here if Stern decides not to fire him. He better not make another peep for the rest of his career.

Those guys would have been doing their teams a favor by quitting. Demps proved himself to a terrible GM and Morey is just turning Houston into a treadmill team.

Yeah...seems like they already were talking trade before any agreement was even in place and it was tenatevely done before the CBA was signed considering the trade was blasted hours after it was signed.

Darryl Morey should quit his job. What's stopping him?
Dell Demps should be fired or at least they should interview him on why he though the 1st deal was so good he had to sign off on it so fast. Even if KM and Scola deal was a great deal (I don't want to debate this.), why not talk with other teams and test the market some? Why not see if he gets better offers? It's not like LA was going to pull the offer from the table. I just can't understand it.

The fall of the great "moneyball" Darryl Morey.

Daryl Morey isn't a very good GM to begin with, might be a blessing in disguise here.

Dell Demps should be fired for behind the scenes shadiness and/or being a worst GM than Stu Jackson. Terrible return for Chris Paul to a rebuilding franchise. No young pieces coming back at all. Add to the fact that Odom clearly had no value around the league + Gasol has limited value to a rebuilding team (see Curry proposal). If Morey was going to quit, he should have quit, not because of the integrity of the league itself but because of people like Dell Demps.

It's funny because he doesn't know why players don't want to come to Houston. Um...maybe because players that come to Houston are automatically put in 3 positions. Asset. Tradeable. Prospect. They don't treat players as players. Its just an assigned # for Morey.

As for Demps, he should be fired for accepting the initial LAL offer and then if that wasn't worse, he goes back to the league with the same proposal. Obvious agenda is obvious.

Both need to be fired or quit. Nobody would care either way. Morey has done a lot more damage than fixing.

Who cares? Stern did what was best for the Hornets and both teams benefited. Blake and DeAndre are happy with the trade, Clippers fans obviously are happy since all the season tickets just sold out, and the Hornets got back an excellent rebuilding package.

Stern should be doing trades for all teams.

All these garbage tier posters hating on Morey.

Morey has no asset to deal and has been the BEST GM at drafting. Les Alexander is 100% against tanking or rebuilding, that is why we are perpetually stuck at 9th seed.

If Demps is thinking about quitting, it should be because of the fact that he had no vision for his team moving forward post CP3, such that, of all people, DAVID STERN, had to shake it into him that he was making a deal that made no sense.

After which Demps STILL DIDNT GET THE CLUE, and tried to make another bad deal, only until it was the LAL that gave up did Demps consider LAC.

the LAC deal for the Hornets is killer. About 20x better than what LAL/HOU was offering. For Demps to be so short sighted and not understand that a framework of 2012 Minn 1st rounder + Gordon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kevin Martin + Scola is absolutely terrifying for their franchise and whoever is going to buy it.

If I'm Demps I talk to Portland to see if they're interested

Yes that's going from the frying pan to the fire, but there's no point staying in NOH after this embarrassment

Demps was thinking about quitting?

LOL.

He should be fired, investigated and banned from the NBA.

That deal was so obvious wink wink handshake shammockery it should have came wrapped in purple and gold with a Magic Bullet bow on top.

It's appalling that he considered a deal of Kevin Martin + Scola >>>>>>>>>>>>> 2012 minn pick + Gordon.

Absolutely astounding, he really should be ashamed of himself.

3 weeks wasted by a couple of guys?

In my business entire teams can spend years on projects that are cancelled if they don't impress at a greenlight meeting. Usually with a massive lay-off following.

Just not feeling sympathy for NBA executives.
