cp3
deron
rose
kobe
wade
durant
melo
lebron
bosh
love
griffin
howard

the 8 perimeter guys are almost set in stone imo, leaves howard and 3 bigs. if bosh is committed as per his 2008 experience, he'll be on the team. that leaves 2 spots for bigs from a combination of love/griffin/aldridge/amare. bynum isnt on the national team roster due to his past injury problems (he declined an invite previously), and zach randolph because of politics.

the role players who have a shot at making of the spots left for bigs would be tyson chandler for his defense.

without Wade the 2008 USA Olympic team wouldn't have won....just saying.

um...a guy named Derrick Rose?

I have Rose in my possible squad, but he wasn't there in 2008 and was basically a non factor in 2010.As good as he is in Nba he hasn't shown much in international game,it's not an outrageous thought to imagine USA team without him.

yet Blake is a lock?

edit: nvm responding to wrong guy.

@peja: was his first exposure to international ball, was being too passive and trying to give everyone the ball. I think if he played like his normal self, coupled with his improved court vision and shooting he would be much more effective.
I just forgot him.

With that being said...you only need so many guys who are super-athletic and can get to the rim and force buckets at will. If you've already got Lebron, Wade and Kobe, you're probably better off with your other guys as rebounders, defenders, spot-up shooters and unselfish set-up men.

Oh also, I'm not a Laker fan but I'd probably tell the team that if we need to force a bucket in the 4th Quarter, we're going to Kobe. Lebron would secretly be relieved and I think Wade would understand that Kobe is a head-case and will do everything at full intensity if given that status.

I'd rather watch college kids or young under the radar NBA players than LeBron, Melo, Wade, Kobe etc. Already been there done that. Give the young kids a chance to represent the country. I don't need to see the large posses or stars colluding to form superteams during the Olympics.

bottom line American college kids cannot beat teams of seasoned pros from Europe. I don't see why you think its simple and pure to have 19 year olds from the US getting schooled by 29 year olds from Europe.

In my opinion, it's easily those 12.

According to the wiretap article only players that were on the 2008 team or the 2010 team will be a part of the 2012 team (except for Blake Griffin).

I don't think that is accurate though, Team USA's official website lists all these players as being on the 2010-2012 roster:

http://www.usabasketball.com/mens/national/roster.html

LaMarcus Aldridge
Carmelo Anthony
Chauncey Billups
Carlos Boozer
Chris Bosh
Kobe Bryant
Tyson Chandler
Stephen Curry
Kevin Durant
Tyreke Evans
Rudy Gay
Eric Gordon
Danny Granger
Jeff Green
Dwight Howard
Andre Iguodala
LeBron James
Al Jefferson
David Lee
Brook Lopez
Robin Lopez
Kevin Love
O.J. Mayo
Lamar Odom
Chris Paul
Kendrick Perkins
Tayshaun Prince
Rajon Rondo
Derrick Rose
Amar'e Stoudemire
Dwyane Wade
Gerald Wallace
Russell Westbrook
Deron Williams

This leads to me to believe that any of the players that were on the 2008 team, the 2010 team, or the 2010 select team, which trained against the 2010 team can be considered for the 2012 Olympics.

Lamarcus Alrdridge deserves to be on the 2012 team. He would be a perfect fit because he could play also play backup minutes at center for Howard.

I'm confused, they are reporting that ONLY players from 2008 and 2010 plus Blake Griffin will be considered for the USA team.

Where does this leave Iman Shumpert?

Per Sheridan

We told you earlier today that LaMarcus Aldridge is on the verge of being added to the preliminary Team USA roster for the 2012 Olympics.

Now we’re reporting something even better: The entire 19-man roster.

Here it is, alphabetically, from my impeccable international basketball sources:

LaMarcus Aldridge

Carmelo Anthony

Chauncey Billups

Chris Bosh

Kobe Bryant

Tyson Chandler

Kevin Durant

Eric Gordon

Blake Griffin

Dwight Howard

Andre Iguodala

LeBron James

Kevin Love

Lamar Odom

Chris Paul

Derrick Rose

Dwyane Wade

Russell Westbrook

Deron Williams

So Curry, Granger, Gay were the first cuts.
