Sabonis, Divac and Kukoc are too soft - damn europeans
.
Stockton is a choker - 2 finals and no title?
.
Rodman is a stat pader, no wonder he gets 18 rebounds average. If he had a good rebounder in his team, this would never happen. He steals from his teammates.

80's
"is Patrick Ewing the next Kareem Abdul Jabbar?"
"The Rockets will regret picking Hakeem over Sam Bowie"
"Who is better and has the higher upside Dominique Wilkins or Michael Jordan?"
"Nike or Converse?"
"Is Magic Johnson the greatest player or Alltime?"

Hello!
Although RealGM did not exist in the 1980s, archives of NBA discussion still exist. Google acquired Usenet, which served as what we know call forums, for the average Internet users of the 80s. It also has a great "Search" feature so you can find interesting discussion about a variety of subjects.
Here is an example.

This deal would make absolutely no sense at all. Why would the wolves need a
small forward such as Kobe when they already have Garnett and Gugs to play both
forward postions. Besides, it is my opinion that the wolves wish to
improve next year instead of building for way in the future. Kobe Bryant
will not make an impact this year.. probably not for another three years if
at all.. i don't believe that he will ever be an impact player and I feel
sorry for the Hornets wasting their pick in the draft.

Eliminating salary cap and other extraneous considerations, would you trade Ron
Mercer for Kobe Bryant?
There's no way in hell that I would. Personally, I think Kobe's overrated due
to the hype machine that is L.A. I also think that he gets alot of attention
because he came into the NBA out of high school. But if you look at his game,
it isn't all that special. So what if he can jump through the gym and produce
highlight film dunks? Have you seen Mr. Mercer the past few games? There's some
quality dunks if that's what you want.
Mercer has the better overall offensive game. He's much more of a pure shooter
than Kobe. Bryant's more of a chucker. I will give Kobe this - he does have
better range as a shooter. Mercer has yet to show (or even attempt to show) he
can shoot the three. Maybe this will come with time or maybe it's something
that isn't part of his game. Either way, I'd take Mercer over Kobe any day of
the week.
I agree with everything you said about the LA media machine. And you're
right, Mercer shows more skill, Kobe shows all highlight reels. Mercer can
make his own too.
Helz...maybe we could send this to NBC before they make us listen to
another "pasing the torch" thing like the all-star game, reason alone to
hope those two teams don't make the Finals....Puh-leez, Kobe the next
Mike--Hey NBC, watch the game, not the highlight reels.
Great post! I like them both a lot. you have to agree that Kobee will be a
force for years, and has more aggressiveness. But Mercer is my guy!
They may give us the former Bird/Magic wars we loved in another 2-3 years.
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.spor ... 9b7f92bef1Nice to see Kobe was thought of as overrated back then too.
Also, that Ron Mercer was quite the prospect.

Not exactly. 70 minutes a game is way to exaggerating. This season, he
averaged about 15 minutes and about 7 points. When he plays more than 14
minutes in a game, he averages more than 10. Even though I don't think
Kobe can average 20 pts a game, I think he'll score around 15 points if
they let him play at least 20 minutes.

Ceballos = Worthy
