Westbrook's next contract?

Per Wiretap, Westbrook wants a max deal $94 million and the team is offering $80 million, and people think they'll split the difference. My question is why? Westbrook will get the max, he just has to hit free agency. If I'm his agent, I say no deal unless it's max, then let some other team sign him to a max offer sheet. THEN of course OKC will match, because they have to. It seems dumb for it to have to work out this way, with OKC lowballing him. Just give him the max contract and be done with it.

Doesn't that mean that Westbrook will get more money than Durant if that $94m extension goes through?

They´re not lowballing him necessarily, they´re just trying to keep the core together. If they sign him for the max what happens to Ibaka and Harden? And of they´re to to see if Westbrook is willing to let go a couple of mil to make sure he has Harden and Ibaka around, a core that will be contending for championships for years to come. On the other hand he could be stubborn and just take the whole paycheck.

I thought that was basically the same contract Durant has post-Rose Rule?

I think all of the parties involved realize that Westbrook can get a max deal. If Westbrook decides he wants to split with OKC, it allows the team to stay as competitive as possible, and they'll possible be able to keep some of their current players. What's so difficult to understand?
I think any player that's in his position to sign a contract extension is going to look at the pros and cons. The cons being agent fees and taxes (as long as he's content playing in OKC).

Hopefully RW they get this done soon, we're playing great at the moment and any distraction would be unfortunate

If I'm Colangelo I'll tell him I'm giving him the max this offseason.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Westbrook need another All NBA selection this year to qualify for the Rose Rule?
So far he has 1 All Star, and 1 All NBA selection iirc. Don't you need two or 1 MVP to qualify?

If he doesn't get the max teams like Toronto are probably going to jump on him and most likely lure him in. He could be the center of a young core consisting of DeRozan, Bargnani, Val, and a high 2012 draft pick. That pretty enticing for Westbrook. Toronto's not all that much of a small market either they have one of the top attendance in the league. Westbrook could be the new Vince Carter there.
