Josh Smith and Monta Ellis got screwed! (again...)

Post#1 » by Mich3006 » Fri Feb 10, 2012 11:35 am

Picking Steve Nash and Deron Williams over Josh Smith and Monta Ellis is as worse as the David Stern Veto on the Lakers-Hornets-Rockets trade!!!

This is ridiculous, J-Smoove is the best player on the Hawks team, can´t describe my hate on this decision!!!

What do you guys think about it??

Steve Nash has been playing amazing... maybe look for someone else to try to replace Ellis with.

I think JSmoove should have gotten in over JJ, but i don't think i take anyone else off the East to replace Smoove with.

yep, Tony Parker shouldn't have gotten it, and Monta Ellis should have made it

Paul Pierce shouldn't have gotten it, and Josh Smith should have got it.

Granger and Smith should have made it. Pierce probably not.
I'm glad for Iggy, well deserved.
Monta is a good player but he's been around a pretty good supporting crew (Lee, Curry) and they still don't seem to get anywhere. That's why he didn't get in.

??? Parker is easily more deserving than Ellis. Spurs are .667 and TP is their best player, averaging 19pts and 8 assists. I just don't get it...

And if we have to pick between 2 guards on losing teams, Nash stats are just incredible.

If Josh Smith got screwed, then it is because of Joe Johnson, not Deron Williams.

Monta Ellis is not having a better season than Nash, he's just scoring more points, that doesn't equal a better season, sorry, and Nash's team is at the same level as GS.

I find it unreal that apparently Josh Smith will never make an All Star game. This year:

Josh Smith:
Usage: 23.0
Per: 19.65

Deng:
Usage: 19.5
Per: 16.29

Iggy:
Usage: 18.4
Per: 18.83

There is simply no reason Smith should not make it in over these guys. Deng has missed at least a third of the season for crying out loud. Look at Smith's usage/per for the last several seasons and compare it to other players that got in over him. It is a joke. There is literally no way someone that plays as well as he does should not be an All Star. There is clearly a bias about him that means he will never make the All Star game no matter how gaudy his stats routinely are or how well the Hawks do as a team.

The Hawks didn't deserve two spots....

maybe if Rondo made it and Deron and Pierce didn't then Smith would be fine but The Hawks don't deserve two spots and Joe Johnson was the pick.

why are certain players like Joe Johnson seemingly a lock for the team every year regardless of their play?

Because the Hawks have been good every year he's been there(and his first few years there he was pretty damn good)?

This might be the only year he doesn't really deserve it but someone from that team does...he just happens to be the guy they picked.

In defense of Joe, he is clearly the third best SG in the NBA and easily the second best SG in the East after Wade. He has a PER of 18.23 and a value added of 108.1. Both of those are the second best for SGs in the East. And this is a season where he had a slow start recovering from a wrist injury in the lockout. He absolutely deserves to be an All Star.

Relax. The All Star game is a joke anyway. If not selected => more time for players to rest and get ready for the remainder of the season and play offs.

Josh Smith is not an all star. Look at the game and not the end result #s please.

The Bulls have played 28 games: LINK

Luol Deng has played 21 games: LINK

21 / 28 = .75, or 3/4, or greater than 2/3.

If you want to throw out one or two stats and bitch about them, how bout Cliff Levingston does:

Josh Smith:
TS%: .497
Turnovers: 2.4

Luol Deng:
TS%: .509
Turnovers: 1.7

Andre Iguodala:
TS%: .532
Turnovers: 1.9

A power forward with less than .50 TS%? Is that even possible?

Disclaimer: Cliff Levingston is not a Josh Smith hater, just proving a point.

Smith was unlucky, However saying two point guards took his spot?

He probably deserved Dengs spot.

Also why Blame Steve Nash? guys averaging 15 points at 59%/45%, Mighty impressive,. and he's leading the league in assists.

I mean Monta is a guy who has always been very stiff to miss out. Probably because we've had some amazing shooting guards in the west with Manu/Bryant for the past few years, and he's not considered for a point guard spot and never will

Joe deserves it because he is the 2nd best SG in the east.

Josh also deserves it because he is tied with Bosh as best PF in the east

i don't know why the NBA decided to OD on SFs.... Melo, Lebron, Deng, Pierce, Iggy

Chicago deserves two spots
Miami deserves two spots
Atlanta deserves two spots
Philadelphia deserves two spots, but they don't have a 2nd guy with the stats to validate a selection

Boston deserves 1 to 0 spots

it should be:

Dwight / Hibbert / Monroe
Bosh / Josh
Lebron / Iggy / Deng
Wade / Joe
Rose / Rondo

I agree that both should have made it in, but wtf does Josh Smith have to do to get in the game? He ALWAYS gets snubbed

Yes, the game is a joke, BUT the selection is an accolade/honor. There are players that are pure stats, but seeing that a player has say, 6-7 all-star appearances, we can gauge that he was a perennial top 25-ish player and likely a superstar at some point in his career.

Smith is being kept from the All-Star game based on his shooting efficiency (his poor FT% is a major drag, IMO). That's the only reason that makes any sense.

His defensive rebounding has been phenomenal this season, and he can fill a stat sheet with blocks, assists, and steals. He's been pivotal in keeping the Hawks in playoff contention.
