Are you a team fan, or player fan 1st?

I don't know why people root for single players, over single teams. Are you such a fan that root only for the team because of that one player you like so much? I just don't understand. There are alot of Heat bandwagoners that just suddenly became Heat fan b/c they are LeBron fans first. Same with Shaq when he came to Miami.

Are you a team or player fan 1st?

I've lived in Orlando my entire life, I rarely follower a single player outside of Orlando.

I am neither. I just like basketball, and follow different teams each year. I really can't keep interest in a team I don't like, because I feel no connection to them. I don't have this problem with my home teams, but since I'm from Europe I can't call any NBA team as my own.
You could say I'm a player fan because I follow more players of my nationality, but that's it.

Team first. Good or bad. If a player gets traded they're now the enemy. FOr instance. I don't look at what Gallo, or Felton, or Mozgov are doing with their newe teams, I might watch another team's game becuase I like the matchup, like Minny against LAC last night, but that's it.

Player fan, as in Dirk fan.
But I don't think it's that bad, for me it is quite naturally.

I've never been to the the US, none of my close friends where and I have no personal relationship to any city/region. So no geographical fanship to one team possible. In addition I'm a soccer fan first (here a normal team fan) and was never into basketball, besides my general interest in nearly all teamsports. That plus he fact that you rarely see any nba in tv/media makes it hard to just discover a team you might like.
And here comes Dirk, he gets at least some attention in Germany plus he gives you someone to root for. So yeah Dirk fan first but of course you grow fond of the Mavs and even without him I propably stick with them.

Team fan without doubt.

I do believe the media's involvement with the game is what brings out player fandom. Perhaps a certain portrayed personality or "rank" in the game is appealing and then you'd like to see that player succeed without infringing on your team's success.

That's not to say I am one right now but if Lebron left my team then I would probably still want him to succeed elsewhere.

Same opinion.

Melo has turned into one of my fave players, I was never into him at all during his Denver years. For me, it's all about NY. If you're not on my team, you're the enemy(minus Steve Nash, always loved him, probably a Canadian thing).

All I care about is the Celtics.

But to be honest, I really enjoyed seeing Shaq when he was in Orlando. He was something that we never saw before.

I only cheer for whats on the front of the jersey not the back of the jersey. Players come and go but the team is there forever

Team fan but why is it so wrong to be a fan of other players? I watch teams besides the Lakers because of the players they have, with the exception of a few who I watch because they just play great basketball.

If Irving wasn't in Cleveland, would you still watch them? Better yet, did anyone actually follow the Cav's last year as much as they are doing this season? I would think no.

Team fan, which is pretty sad since that team is the Raptors.

Team fan but I have players (Nash, Dirk, Durant currently) who I'd say I was a fan of, but never over the Raptors, although it's generally always them going over the Raptors.
