Just listening to Los Angeles radio, and Eric Pincus, who is a very well-established/well-connected reporter here in LA (he's also one of the main guys on Hoopsworld), is talking about it right now.
Will update as I get more info from the interview.
He's saying that their only concern is his back surgery.

good.
Dwight will extend next summer, I'm sure of it. Just get the deal done.
When Westbrook blows by Nash we will need Howard in the paint to meet him.

I think the FO are fools for taking this gamble if the report is true.

Can't see him walking away from over 20M and the big endorsement deal he'll make for playing for one of the premier franchises in Sports.
He'll sign if they trade for him. It hasn't happened yet because he probably feels insecure about re-tracing Shaq's every move. You know he's starring in STEEL next.

if LA did trade for dwight and he did leave, as so many posters are speculating; well, where do you see him going, realistically? most likely, brooklyn wont be an option by then.

Is it worth the risk? Whose more of a liability with the injuries him or Bynum? Is there skill diff that big?

Lakers trade future 1st and 2nd rounders from 2025 + Bynum for Howard + extension... c'mon Mitch.

Don't do it, Mitch! This gamble is totally unnecessary.

Do it, Dwight won't have anywhere realistic to go and he'll never want to leave after he gets a taste of Hollywood.
You really think he'll turn his back and walk away from the Lakers?

I've been saying this. If they can trade Bynum straight up for Howard, Lakers have to do it.
Dwight ain't leaving a Lakers team with Kobe / Pau / Nash to play with Deron and Joe Johnson. c'mon son. Also, socal is just too fun for a 20-something superstar. He is NOT leaving if they trade for him, I don't care what anybody says, even him. He'll change his mind and sign a long term deal without a shadow of a doubt.

I agree AND I'm willing to take the risk. I don't think Gasol/Bynum is a good fit, there's too much inconsistency between them.

Dallas would be my guess but who knows? When an unrestricted FA like Howard is on the market, crazy stuff are going to be happening with teams trying to clear cap space to sign him. The Lakers should not be a part of that wild goosechase after acquiring someone like Steve Nash. Keep it simple, keep it conservative.

with the signing of nash, i see howard being very happy in LA. not only because nash is an all time great pg, but because dwight publicly said this season that he wants to play with nash. add that to the fact that LA will be able to pay him the most come free agency and that LA will certainly be a title contender, its hard to see dwight so willingly walk away from LA
