If you had to start/rebuild a franchise which position would you start as your cornerstone??

(Floor general type/Leader) PG. example(Kidd,Dwill,Rondo,Magic)
(High Scoring/Freakishly talented) SG. example(D.Wade,Kobe,R.Miller)
(Athletic/Scoring/Defensive) SF. (T-mac before injuries, Bird,Scottie Pippen)
(All-Around) PF. example(Duncan,Garnett,Malone)
(Dominate) C. example(Olajuwan,D.Howard,Shaq)

Its NOT pick a player, its pick a position..

Center. Always.

It's so difficult to find a highly-skilled, game-changing big man. And if, on the off-chance, you get one, your franchise is set provided competent management. A franchise center like Shaq, Hakeem, Wilt, Russell, Duncan and KAJ is the cornerstone of your offense and the last line of defense.

BINGO. Really dominant big men come once every decade or so. Having a lethal scorer like Kobe would be my second choice.

When was the last time a team won a championship with a floor general? Magic Johnson is the last person who I can think of and that has been over two decades.

That would probably be my last choice, just because they can't dominate the position as easily. They need strong talent around them to win.

I don't know if I would categorize Billups in the same level. But I do see how you could make a case for him.

Yeah I know what you mean, he wasn't a superstar.

I keep hearing how people say a great point guard hasnt won since Isiah and Magic. Because they had a great point is not the reason why they havent won a title. Its because there has been a great point guard on a good team. If you have a great talent point guard surrounded by average players, compared to an equally talented swing player surrounded by average players. The Piont guard will have more success.

Magic/Stockton

Bird/LeBron
Duncan/Barkley
Shaq/Chamberlin/Jabbar/Olajuwan

Bigs, such as centers/power forwards need someone to get them the ball, point guards need someone to pass to. That leaves sg/sf's

The player to build around is the dominant shooting guard. Dominant shooting guard has potential to score without much setting up, has the ability to shut down an opponent, and has the ability to create for others.

Dwight Howard can not score 30 ppg without a proper player giving him the ball. This derails his dominance. By comparison, Dwayne Wade in his prime was able to lead a team to a ring because he could literally dominate both sides and control the offense.

It could be argued that Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are really combo guards because they are as responsible for their offenses running as guards such as Westbrook, Rose, Francis and Marbury.

Would you rather build around Dwight or Lebron?
