Do the Heat have an unfair advantage over Western teams?

Basically, it's pretty fair to say that the Eastern conference is a joke. Only the Knicks look capable of being able to give Miami a challenge, and that is also a big if depending if Amare's return won't just **** everything up again for the Knicks.

The Heat are going to pretty well rested going in to the finals, anyone out of the West will be pretty damn exhausted. Clips, Grizzs, Lakers, Thunder, Spurs vs New York, Brooklyn, Boston? So much for parity.

yes, but its cyclical

like in the 80s, it was a cakewalk for magic and the lakers and hell for bird's celtics

I don't think there has ever been a stretch of dominance of one conference over another as long as the current streak of the West, though.

1. It is not the Heat's fault they are in the East.

2. There is no cakewalk in this league. Whether you are in the east or west, you have to win 16 games in order to win.

3. Injuries can change everything.

teams like brooklyn and new york are finally getting it together, so is chicago. boston is still hanging around

meanwhile in the west:
- dallas finally altered their core and stopped winning 50+ games every year, dirk can't play forever.
- san antonio has to finally capitulate sooner or later, duncan can't play forever.
- lakers have to rebuild soon, kobe can't play forever

Exhausted? Only teams who don't want to win championships get exhausted.

This idea that you have to somehow "work harder" to beat better teams is ridiculous, because its based on the assumption that teams are only going 80% normally in the playoffs, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Its also dumb reasoning, based on who wins in the Finals. If the West team wins, instead of saying the West team was exhausted, you'd say the superior competition prepared them for any challenge they might face. See how that works?

Miami might just be a weaker team than last year's.

its true, the lakers circa 2007/08 didn't face anyone of note until boston, and then got quite the rude awakening

There's an unfair advantage. But it has nothing to do with conferences.

Both conferences have 4 teams >= 0.700 and the East have more >= 0.500

We saw it last year. Intense series vs Pacers and a battle against Boston. Boston was much better vs Heat than OKC. So what now?

Both conferences are hard. Miami, Boston, Chicago, NYK are legit. Of course Bulls have no Rose for now but he might be there and playing good when the playoffs come.

The Heat beat the Knicks (who look like a top 5 NBA team atm), Pacers (#3 seed, same record as the Lakers last year iirc), Celtics, and Thunder.

Didn't this thread pop up a few months ago, that the Heat are in the Finals already and would dominate the West? Wasn't this guy the poster who was claiming that the Heat would win 73 games? My apologies if I'm getting him mixed up with another guy.

BTW: The Celtics are very much in the hunt for the East, its a very small sample size so far this season, relax.

a) its easier because they arent tired
b) its difficult because they arent prepared to play tight games....

For a team like LAL i would prefer the east, because they need to be fresh

But for Miami west would be better....

I just don't understand the timing of this thread at all when the Heat just finished a 6 game west coast trip.

In fact, 7 of their 11 games this season have come against Western Conference teams. Go figure.

Who knew adding Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis would make a team with LeBron, Wade. And Bosh weaker.
