It's a colloquial term. It isn't math. Nobody has ever pretended it was math.

Why do they talk about "wingspan". That's not biologically accurate. Nobody is playing with feathers.

that's exactly my point.

Intelligence Quotient (IQ) IS quantifiable. there is an examination that produces a quotient such as 98 or 112. if you cannot get that quotient, then it's NOT an IQ.

IQ has a correlating number, always.
Sorry I suck at communicating :D .. Yes we agree, but what I meant was that most people use it as a quality and not a quantity regardless of what "IQ" actually means. Since most people use it as a quality and not a number/mathematical measure of actual intelligence, no one really made up any stat.

Saying BB IQ is just another way of subjectively talking about how smart you think a player is.

It not made up. I know DUMB people who can ball. See lanes, see openings, make the right pass and the right time. Genius on the court. Dumb in class. It's absolutely not made up

then what examination gives us the quotient? show me how the quotient in basketball IQ is configured.

A test would have to be created to measure it real time on the basketball court. Similar to the skills test they do at all star. High ball iq guys will do better. And it's because they gave a keen sense for the game that is more than athleticism. It's an instinct. Just because we haven't devised a way to examine it means it doesn't exist. Just not yet. In fact the exam is the game. If we gave points for smart plays, Kidd would be off the chart, Lebron too

An intelligence quotient, or IQ, is a score derived from one of several standardized tests designed to assess intelligence. there is no test that gives us a basketball intelligence quotient. basketball IQ does not exist.

if someone makes up a basketball intelligence test, then all sorts of nerds who cannot ball would be able to study and ace it.

Basketball IQ is a colloquialism, no need to over analyze it. I haven't seen anyone argue that it is a quantifiable attribute.

quo·tient
/ˈkwōSHənt/
Noun
1. A result obtained by dividing one quantity by another.
2. A degree or amount of a specified quality or characteristic: "an increase in our cynicism quotient".

I would say quotient by the second definition is fine when referring to bball IQ.

so who has the higher basketball IQ, nash or lebron? it's completely subjective, but people state it like it's not.

basketball IQ does not exist. basketball intelligence yes.

Right so you're a fundamentalist who has trouble with nuance.

People say "BBIQ" because it's quick and easy to say. They mean "basketball intelligence", which clearly exists. Watch Jevale McGee for a little while and you see the damage not having mental abilities can cause.

Interestingly enough you seem to hold IQ on a pedestal where you should be skeptical of it. It's supposed to measure intelligence. It doesn't do a very good job of it because it's impossible to quantity human intelligence in a single number.

When people say BBIQ they mean basketball intelligence. Get over it. Who cares seriously. Everybody knows there is no real BBIQ number, it's just a way of saying. Wtf.

i'm glad we agree.

i just wish people would stop parading it around like it's truly quantifiable, and not just subjective. people always say stuff like "LOL westbrook has no basketball IQ", it's dumb. why bother adding the term "quotient" when it's clearly not there?
