Bskey wrote:"Metal Rim attached to a backboard with a hanging net ball intelligence" is the correct term, you're right.

You sir (or madam) are correct, after all it is not really a basket. All baskets I have seen have a bottom to them. They should have changed the name to net ball as soon as they switched out the peach baskets.

BB IQ is totally different than normal IQ. Michael Jordan has a low IQ for example.

Anyway, I certainly agree that basketball IQ is made up. It's just that people love storylines and thus make up stuff like "low basketball IQ" and "fake tough guy" as an excuse to hate on players they dislike.

There are so many people in the world
W a high iq that don't know anything about basketball

There are smart bball players that are better at other things

Roger mason jr the architect comes to mind

Nash is a basketball architect but i doubt he can actually build a building

Basketball iq is hard to measure statistically but it sure does
Exist

High IQ doesnt necessarily = high basketball IQ but im sure theres a strong correlation. Just because you cant quantify it doesnt mean its not a real aspect of basketball, its pretty obvious.

How much air do you breath?

ITS NOT REAL COZ THERES NO NUMBER!!!

Players aren't really throwing basketball. Free throws are now Uncontested, flatfooted (unless your MKG) shots.

This is how I saw it too. OP tried to up his ego on the internet, defining words literal and demanding answers as if he were a debate scholar. My guess is a lonely college sophomore who wants to feel special,

Needs internet counseling.

If there is no such thing as bb IQ, then why did Larry Bird say he was far smarter on the bb court than he was off it? Of course there's bb IQ, aptitude, just like certain people are smart in some things and not so smart in others. I've know a number of people who were very good around machines and gadgets, but not so good with the fine arts or even simple speaking, reading, and writing . But you give them some gizmo to fix, and they're geniuses.

jamesnamida wrote:but no theres no current quantification in the league today, just people saying player x has good iq, based on their on court decisions, which reflect on their understanding of how the game is played, and what is the best move for each situation.

though i do believe players who pick up and understand basketball 5vs5 theory quickly and easily, can be successful in most other fields than a player who just doesn't get it.
Mostly because of their ability to learn new things, they probably know the most successful way for themselves to learn and think.

great post. it also could indicate how well a person can take on a leadership role with teamwork off the court.

It's not a number but it certainly exists. You can tell who the guys are out there that know how to rotate on D and how to space themselves to get open on offense compared to the guys that just look lost or consistently finds themselves out of position.

So you can't call it a stat but it is certainly important to find players with a good grasp of the game. No matter how talented you are if you struggle with the basic concepts of the game you will never reach your full potential.

sprint2thecup wrote:"basketball IQ" is a made up stat. there's no such thing. there's only "IQ". all other sorts of equations like "sex IQ" or "basketball IQ" are completely made up.

there's no examination that produces a quotient for basketball intelligence, thus there is no such thing as basketball IQ.

i see, so you are saying that your overall IQ si the same regardless to what it is applied to? interesting.

so a doctor with an IQ score of 125 should have no problem explaining the inner workings of a corroborator or how quasars differ in interstellar space or how to properly breed dogs?

Saying BB IQ is just another way of subjectively talking about how smart you think a player is.

It not made up. I know DUMB people who can ball. See lanes, see openings, make the right pass and the right time. Genius on the court. Dumb in class. It's absolutely not made up

then what examination gives us the quotient? show me how the quotient in basketball IQ is configured.

not having a set of standardized tests that produces a measurement doesnt mean that it cant be done. there is just no reason to conduct said tests, because the results are more readily available by simply watching the players play.

i can create a 5 page test on how to butcher a chicken to get a butchering iq, but it would be alot easier to give the chef a chicken and watch him for 8 minutes.
