Carlisle accuses Jazz of "thugging it up"

The Jazz played physical against the Mavs and after beating them Carlisle had some interesting comments:
"They went to basically thugging it up and that's when the game turned, and I thought the officiating went their way," Carlisle said. "They started to get calls and we weren't able to get the whistles.
http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2013/1/8/38 ... -jazz-thug"That was probably a function of their aggressiveness. But at the same time I thought there were a couple of times where a whistle could have blown for us."
On the other hand, the Jazz coach felt it ignited the team:
"I thought it was a momentum-builder," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin. "Everybody [became] determined they weren’t going to let anybody run over them; we were going to fight the entire time. I thought that was a big play to get us going. From there, we just picked it up."
Favors just felt he was playing physical:
Asked about the play, Favors shook his head slightly.
"I just got physical," he said. I’m going to make them call something."
Here is the play:

I think it was cool to see the nastiness in Favors. He was protecting his teammate in another game showing more of his nasty side:

Personally I like to see this type of thing from my players.
I saw some people freaking out about this calling it dirty. What they ignore is Hayward was elbowed by Dirk on a prior play and a hard foul by another Mavs player. To me it's a bit of pot calling the kettle back.
What do you guys think? Carlisle being a baby? Is this "thugging it up?"
I read some Mavs posters on another board saying Favors deserved a flagrant or a tech and that this "should be reviewed" by the league.
We all getting soft?

Hope the Jazz thug it up more. Better than seeing the passive crap from that team that's dominated the past few years from them.

Somewhere Karl Malone is turning over in his grave (yes I know he's not dead). Anyway Carlisle is "being a baby" but there's nothing wrong with backing up your team. However anyone that watched the Mavs lose in the first round to the Spurs saw how "dirty" Carlisle can be when he used Jason Terry and goons like Najera to basically headhunt against Parker and Ginobili
I wonder how much of a factor Cuban's fine played here if at all. Wonder if he's got something to say about that play

It's hard for me to hate on playing with passion/intensity and physicality.

def have noticed at home the jazz pretty much foul on every play until they get called for it. i dont consider hacking all the time "thugging it up". its just aggressive "illegal" defense. thugging it up would be doing kg tactics, dirty moves and etc, they dont do that they just hack constantly

I like physical play as much as the next guy, but should we tolerate people slamming skill players to the ground for no reason?
That's what it was, a body slam after the play was over.

Point taken. I think that this particular play was punishment worthy. I just believe that playing with grit/toughness in generally is a good thing and that's why I'm not being too harsh.

Where do we draw the line.
Blatant elbows to the face are okay but pushing a guy down isn't?
Boggle.

i dunno, I think Carlisle was just complaining about the reffing. I think both teams would be okay with a fair brawl game.

Would it have been ok for him to wrestle Brand or Kaman down to the ground since they are less "skillful"??

Kanter keeps it G too. He stares down everyone and doesn't back down.

like the intensity, but maybe a bit too much with the body slam after the play was over.

Kanter and Favors are going to crack heads under the basket for the next decade together

Utah gets the most absurd home calls of any team in the league.

Dirk did elbow Hayward in the face
(shockingly Carlisle didn't bring that up)
