Or that there are so many teams and so many players that a lot of the stuff that was invented earlier and is considered "patented" by a given player has proliferated throughout the league and become mostly common-place. Jordan's signature turnaround fade wasn't a move he invented, it's just one that he made famous and used more prominently than a lot of other guys, but it was in the league long before him. Hell, WILT was using that every now and again, to say nothing of wing guys. Nique and B King, drafted a few years before MJ each, used that move as the foundation of their 80s wing post game, for example. Bird used it, too. And so many more.

A signature move and a go-to move aren't necessarily the same thing. We think of go-to moves when we think of post players (centers, as you indicated, but post-up 4s and wings/guards, too) and there aren't a ton of good post guys in the league. That leaves most guys taking a screen or otherwise dribble-penetrating to start their possession, so unless someone is rocking the UTEP Two-Step, you're not going to see a ton of really individualized moves.

there still go to moves.. they just arent as effective as before.. Defense has improve too much to just let the offense run up the court making the same play every time.. or attempt too.. Like if Dirk does his 1 foot fadeaway and makes the shot.. next time he tries to set him self up to do it again the defense would most likely double or do something to make him pass the ball up... But the mavs championship run was the last time you really saw a player go to his go to move so much and perfectly... some players have serious of go to moves tho... guys like Kobe, Melo.. Pierce, they have tons of offensive moves.. thats what makes them great scorers... Durant ain't in the same league as those players yet.. His jumpshot makes it seem like he is a great scorer with a lot of moves.. he's one dimensional..just got a really sick shot

Carmelo and Durants are not signature moves, they are just stop and shoot. That's something everyone does just not as well as they do. That's why I said not just somebody hoisting a shot.The Duncan bank is a signature shot and one that I definitely should have included.

you made a thread about go to moves, not signature moves. not every go to move has to be a signature move.

LeBron's go-to move since coming to Miami is that twisting left-handed layup. Back in Cleveland it used to always be the baseline drive ---> reverse layup.

Signature move is not necessarily the same as a go to move. I find it hard to call a teardrop a go to move for a perimeter guy because it can be a move a guy does, but when you are trying to get a bucket, you want to drive or create space for a shot, but you aren't specifically thinking let me go get a tear drop. It isn't a move you can consistently go to because its overly dependent on how the defense is playing.

You can almost always pull off a fadeaway, or step back, or as a big man, a certain post move you like, etc, but a fake pass layup, a euro step, a tear drop are more about the drive first.

Similarly the eurostep, you have to actually drive first. Ginobili for example could have his little one dribble step back jumper considered a go to move, but not the euro step.
