Grizzlies trade Speights, Selby and pick to Cavs for Lauer, source said.

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS
League source confirms Grizzlies agree to send Marreese Speights, Josh Selby to Cavs for Jon Leuer. There is a pick involved in deal.

Cavaliers also get a second round pick in trade.

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS
The trade saves the Grizzlies about $4M, pushing them under the tax line and eliminating financial need to move Rudy Gay this season.

Confirmed deal: The Grizzlies would send big man Marreese Speights, guard Wayne Ellington and guard Josh Selby to the Cavs for big man Jon Leuer. There are also believed to be a future draft pick involved in the deal.

A very good deal for the Cavs.

And the fans of every Southwest Division team breathe a collective sigh of relief.

This will be the first of many moves the Grizzlies FO (as advised by John Hollinger) will do.

That said, another stretch big? NOOOOOO

The next move they'll make will be in the off-season. I think they'll stand pat for now.

Don't really think Speights is a huge loss to be honest because Arthur is the same player if not better. Once Pondexter is back they can play small ball and play him at PF.

i
like those two players selby and speights. doesn't seem like an even
return unless memphis is using this as a way to create roster space and
get back a few extra players in a rudy gay trade.

edited to add i see it pushes them below tax level so no need to even make a move

Arthur and Leuer are both bigs who can hit midrange shots. Trying to shed some cap relief whilst trying to matchup with teams like San Antonio better.

Grizzlies save $4M in the trade. Don't have to pay luxury tax now I think

This looks pointless, but it really is significant for Memphis. It means the front office has backed off of blowing up the team, and found a smaller, cheaper way to get under the tax limit, which seems to have been their fascination. Likely with all the pushback from the coach and team they keep Gay and Randolph now.

Cavs picked up Leuer off waivers this past offseason. Then they trade him for Speights, Ellington, Selby, and 2nd rounder (likely the Toronto 2016 pick). It's awesome having an owner who's willing to spend when another owner is cheap.

The only true centers on the Grizzlies roster are Gasol and Haddadi...

Memphis $74,127,785
Cleveland $62,570,121

Great trade for both teams.

What this means is that Tony Wroten is definitely going to get playing time now.

That makes two members of the 2009 UNC championship squad who were/will be Cavs. What's next, they chase after Psycho T and Ty Lawson?

Cavs are $10M under the cap so they can take back more in the deal
