Remember how upset Eric Gordon was when they drafted Rivers? Dude must be pissed now. Really, you chose that guy?

The problem with Rivers is that even though he is more talented than the ultimate NBA scrubs/stiffs like Diop, Jason Collins, etc. who are truly worthless outside of being 7 feet tall, Rivers is a player who demands the ball, demands touches, and when he gets it, he only knows how to call his own number, he can't do anything else with it. So unless he regains his confidence and improves his shooting drastically, he'll be a net negative. That's why sometimes a high-school star or a college star won't make it to the pros but a college role player might be a good NBA role player as well.

Yet he has a great hairline. How is this even possible.

If his father wasn't Doc Rivers he would have plummeted in the draft just like Josh Selby did. Both followed the same exact arc, except Selby's father isn't connected in the NBA so he went in the 2nd round like he belonged and Rivers went in the lottery.

Both #1 recruits. Both disappointed in college. Both run out of college by a coach who wanted nothing to do with them after 1 year. And both are really bad pros.

Kid is a 1vs1 type of player. Until he learns how to play team basketball, he will continue to struggle

Doctor MJ wrote:It's irrational for folks like me to take pleasure in his suffering, and I can't justify it morally of course. There is however, a certain breed of arrogance of NBA prospects who basically never listen to what people tell them and still get to the NBA and make millions even as advanced metrics show them not really helping their teams. Rivers is not of this mold exactly given that he's so bad everyone can see it on the NBA level. He is however among the most high profile examples of a prospect along these lines as I can ever think of. I first started reading about him when he was in middle school when Doc was talking about telling him not to get too cocky...and of course it clearly didn't help at all given that Austin was more known for his cocky quotes than pretty much any prospect ever.

Obviously there's a sense of karma in all this, and a feeling that maybe some guys in the future will be a little less stupid if Austin's failure is hghlighted.

Common sense at its best.

His shooting style is ugly and whenever he takes a shot it just doesnt seem to get in but who knows we have a good example of this in Shawn Marion. He looked arrogant before he came to the league and now he is paying the bills.I am really sorry for his father.

Doc really needs to shout at his son like this

So I get that he was needed with Gordon out, but now that Gordon is back, why is he not in the dleague? Is there a point?

Does anybody wonder if Monty Williams plays Austin out of respect for Doc?

Probably, the only reason they drafted him seems to be because of Doc. Just horrible scouting, they are lucky they were gifted a #1 overall pick so they don't bust on that 1 too.

I would buy him low if I was the Raptors. This guy could really help tank for Wiggins next year and if he can play at an average level you could easily swap him for a pick too.

There was a stretch a while back where he had been getting less than 10mpg, then all of a sudden when they played the Celtics he got 20+ minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Doc reaches out to Monty from time to time. Actually I'd be surprised if he doesn't.

That had nothing to do with us playing the Celtics. Our only other guard off the bench, Brian Roberts, sprained his ankle. Rivers had to play.

Guess connections count in the NBA if he's getting a lot minutes producing atrocious stats. As one poster said LVP

I'm over 9000% dead serious when I say that I'd rather have Rivers run the backup point than Brian Roberts. And I've seen every Pelicans game this season except for maybe 2.

Wow at that workout video. Yi Jianlian dominated a chair in his workout. Austin Rivers would have had trouble with a footstool.

Why does he get 24 mpg, but Andre Drummond can only get about 20 mpg?
