Greg Monroe: hesitant to sign long-term with Pistons

What are the chances that Pistons will lose Greg Monroe to free agency to another team? the dream of Drummond and Monroe!
"Greg isn't gonna go backwards between his third and fourth year," Monroe’s agent, David Falk said. "I don't think I've ever done an extension after a third year. In the 90's you maxed out a guy after his second, but the (CBA) rules are different now.
"When I evaluate things, with a player of Greg's stature: Take the money out of the equation. I can get it from five different teams. 'Are there players I want to play with? A coach I want to play for? A city I want to live in?' My job is to make the money as insignificant as possible (relatively)."
Monroe is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in July of 2014. "What incentive does a player have to do an extension after his third year? For me personally, it's difficult to do that," Falk said. “The structure of the CBA, for me, I can't speak for others, I question why that makes sense.”

Roy Hibbert got a max deal.
Size pays in this league, Monroe probably gets a max deal from somebody even if he's not elite. Of course the Pistons likely match unless they land a really good big man in one of the next two drafts. Drummond/Monroe could be a premier big man duo.

Not doubt he gets a max contract.
It's not a big deal since is coming off a rookie scale contract.
Monroe's agent can evaluate everything he wants, but no matter how much money he gets from other teams, DET matches it. And there's no way in hell that he gets the QO to become an UFA in 15/16. Money does matter, especially for his agent.

Apparently you missed this part. Sounds like there is a good chance he plays out the QO.

I didn't miss anything, it's pure BS from his agent.
Do you really think he will leave 60m on the table to get a 5.4m QO?
If Monroe gets hurt badly in the QO year, he would lose a lot of millions and so would his agent.
Not gonna happen.

And we saw how the Pacers played against the Clippers w/out Hibbert. The rebound and interior defense was the worse I've seen all season.
That said, Monroe's making the right decision. Wait to see what you can get on the open market. I wouldn't resign with the Pistons who aren't going anywhere fast without seeing what else is out there.

It's a matter of the Pistons wanting him at a max offer. But since that's only 4/58, I'd say yeah, they'll probably match any offer.

Would Greg Monroe even want to live in Detroit. Talk about a city that's seen much better days. Given the opportunity he'd probably take the money and run from there.

This is the league where JaVale McGee get $44M 4-year deal to be a bench big man, I am sure Monroe can a 5-years max deal from somebody

Probably not, nor do I really expect him to come to LA. I just think that people grossly underestimate the effects of living in a city that has been in perpetual decline for decades. We tend to gloss over these things but that might weigh into his cost/benefit anaylsis when it comes to signing his next contract.
