What Happened To Gerald Wallace?

Post#1 » by dlts20 » Fri Apr 5, 2013 4:47 pm

averaging 8ppg on 40% and 29% from 3. Over the last 2 months he's averaging just 7ppg on 37% and 24.5% from 3. Thats after the huge 4yr 40mil contract.

Even worse the Nets start him with Evans. I cant imagine how there big 3 survive on O playing 3 on 5. I guess they get more shots but still. Put 2 shooters or 2 solid offensive guys on the floor and I bet the big 3's efficiency goes up

Besides the accurate "father time" answer, he's also in a different situation than he's been in for the past few years. In Charlotte and even some in Portland, he was considered a #2-3 option on offense. Sometimes with Charlotte, he was the goto guy. In Brooklyn, he's what? The 4th option, at best? You got Lopez, Williams and Johnson who are all easily ahead of him. With so few opportunities, it's obvious why his offensive production has nose dived. Combined with his age, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

That said, it's obviously a surprise for Billy King since he clearly didn't plan on spending 40mil for a guy who can't even average a double double any more.

He got his money, so why bother trying. Gotta love Billy King.

Traded Damian Lillard for the chance to give Wallace $40 million. Heh. Now that's bad.

The Nets never cared that much if he would actually live up to his contract, he got paid to help entice Deron into staying. Same is true with Joe Johnson, in fact you won't understand any transaction the Nets made in the past two years without looking at it through that prism.

washed up and isn't a focal point on offense anymore. It's a little suprising to see that Shawn Marion is still rebounding well and contributing at 34 almost 35 while Wallace is only 30 and struggling.

Most likely though imo the Nets saw what Matrix did for Dallas even after he started losing athleticism and gave Crash a similar contract

Didn't Deron Williams say that the Wallace signing had absolutely no bearing on whether he resigned in BKN or not?

I am surprised he is only 30 years old.

Kobe is 34 and playing way better than crash. Amazing. Just goes to show how special kobe is.

I would say pace is a factor as well. The Nets are 29th in pace this year and that is not conducive to Wallace's game. Wallace needs to be on an uptempo team where he can use his athleticism to make plays

Wallace's athleticism started declining right after the Bobcats' playoff season, in which he also made his lone all-star appearance. He was 28. It's been really noticeable in the last year or two that has athleticism is fading, and it's fading fast.

Wallace was productive throughout his career regardless of pace. Much too big of a cop-out to suggest that is behind what is obviously a physical decline. Some of his most productive years were on slower paced teams.

I've never been a fan. I always thought he was overrated. He's put up big stats his whole career, but has his teams ever been good because of him?

I don't think its a coincidence when certain players go their whole careers never playing on a winning team. He's finally on a winning team now and isn't even much of a factor. Thats telling.
