Kind of dissapointed in Dallas...

Post#1 » by silent_dreamer » Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:08 am

One would think that the pact not to shave till they reach a .500 record would give the Mavericks extra motivation to win. Tonight was their third attempt at being able to even out their record. The first was against Indiana, which is an understandable loss. The second was against the Lakers, which could also be seen as an understandable loss (though they should have had extra motivation that game as it would have given them a chance to make the playoffs). Losing to the 23-55 Phoenix Suns at home though? Seriously? I was really rooting for these guys to be able to shave, but it looks like they lost their last good opportunity...

We were talking about on the Dallas boards, those beards are a curse. Before each "shave game" Dallas has looked pretty good, and then shave day arrives and it becomes a TOTAL disaster for Dallas.

Dirk is going to look like Gandalf the Grey at the start of next season.

Check the stats of the Suns starting backcourt and the Mavs. Kaman again useless. Mayo again disappeared.

Dirk, Marion, Carter and Wright were (as usual) the only one playing their asses off. And this four will be the only one staying in this team, Cuban must be so pissed about the rest.

And still Dirk is not trashing them:

Dirk on if he’ll sit and rest if they’re mathematically eliminated: “I’m going to finish the season like everybody else.”

He had some solid games. Keep him around vor the vet-min if he wants. For injuries or if you need six fouls...

I feel for the Mavericks players & the Dallas fans, but I'm glad that this defeat puts a dent in Cubans ego.

The issue I see though is Dallas not being a top spot for free agents now that Dirk is nearing the end. This could be the start of a long rebuilding process.

They won one championship. It wasn't even two years ago.

They have something most franchises can never claim.

They are satisfied.

Since dirk has been back it really shows oj mayo is better suited as a sixth man or a 5 million dollar SG,they would be the 8th seed if he didnt just fall off a cliff once dirk came back

Dirk is no Kobe. He's not the kind of guy who just tells his teammates to **** off and demands all the shots. In this situation he should be.

Dallas would have made the playoffs if Dirk had opted to have the surgery at the start of the offseason rather than seeing if he could rehab through it.

I doubt it. We are talking the length of two Harden beards by next year. Theres probably a rule in the NBA about facial hair.

Yeah would be ahead of the Lakers but they always looked like a 45-win team at best anyway with their legion of old guys.

What is discouraging is how OJ Mayo has fallen away since Dirk returned.

Thats bs. Cuban knew what was coming with the new CBA, he just reacted to it earlier than anyone else. You do realize that the Thunder blew up their big-3 core after reaching the finals BECAUSE of the new CBA? Or the Grizzlies dumping Gay? Maybe watch even the lakers dumping Gasol because of it.

And keeping all the guys on longer contracts and their are stuck in LT hell and honestly, they wouldnt have repeated.

Additional Chris Paul told that he and Dwight pretty much agreed to team up with Dirk but then Dwight being Dwight and Paul was sick of waiting. They also striked out on Deron really really close.

It was ok. Just the one year rental team this year sucked because Collison/Mayo/Kaman have no clue how to play with Dirk.

This is the thing with OJ, Dirk and Dallas in general though. They don't have a PG who can get them into their offense. OJ is not a PG. He's not going to hold onto the ball and run a two man game with Dirk. Dirk is sort of the same ever since they won that championship. He doesn't really demand the ball. He'll get the ball, but then, really knows how to look for his own shot. I've seen him try to get others involved, but he's not a guy who can orchestrate the offense like some bigs can.

The Mavericks desparetely need a PG. If they had been able to keep Fisher all year, that would've been good enough, but he screwed them. So they have no one to get them into their offense, to move guys into their spots, and it really screws them offensively.

Vince is good enough for the two man game and sometimes he plays it. He's still pretty good in isolation as well. Thing is, he's older. Elton is done. Kaman is a league average C. Marion's time to go has arrived.

This is an overreaction and the talking points I keep hearing from mavs fans and pundits who dont know the cba. Cuban did this to make a max run at dwill or dwight and he will fail in both instances. Resigning tyson jj caron wouldve at least been fun to watch even if they fell short and all would be expiring after next season (assuming you cld get jj on a 3 yr deal). kidd wouldve stayed and nowitzki could at least go out guns blazing. Instead, cuban knows inside now that the team is screwed and he will likely blow is wad at some point to overpay players when he realizes that the top flight guys arent leaving their cities. Dirk will have wasted 2 yrs of his career in this purported transition period and dallas wont be good again until they tank and get lucky to find an all star.
