Harden trade: Safe to call a failure now?
Now that it looks like Kevin Martin isn't being renewed, the pick from the Raptors ended up being #12, and Lamb having lowered expectations, do you consider it a failure?

I think people are fixating on the Thunder's lack of success, but I chalk that up to an injured Westbrooke.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

If Westbrook goes down and they still have Harden I think they could still go the the WCF at least.

Still doesn't change the fact that they traded a top 3 sg/15 player in his prime for #12 pick, Lamb, and K-Mart. Unless Lamb or the center they pick up with the 12 pick turns into a solid player, they basically gave away Harden..

Needs one more year, thd.
Lets see how harden does in his 2 md year, and lambs role and who they draft with the raptors pick + get for Martin. Martin

Bad trade and if it's true Harden was going to sign at a discount in return for a no-trade clause then it is an epically bad trade.
There's just no scenario they were better off trading him last summer for crumbs instead of playing it out one more year. He was going to be restricted and they could have S&T'd him....ah nevermind we'd gone over this a million times

In the NBA trading quality for quantity almost always fails. A guy like Harden is near impossible to replace. Huge fail, and it's not even close.

If Jeremy Lamb fails, definitely. We'll see though.

They could have done better

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.
NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Re: Harden trade: Safe to call a failure now?
Yes they should have kept Harden but how would he develop on this OKC team. He wouldn't have averaged 20-26ppg. He would have been a 18ppg player and occasionally take over the scoring with big numbers.
He's now the #1 option and scorer, he couldn't and wouldn't have gotten that chance with OKC. He HAD to come off the bench like Manu does with the Spurs, he didn't want to (anymore). It wouldn't make any sense to have a starting 5 of WB-Harden-Durant-Ibaka-Perkins.
Let's just hope Lamb develops in something good.

I don't think Harden is a top 15 player. He's got a nice 3 pt / drive for free throws game, but he's missing a lot on both ends to be top 15.
I could be misremembering, but wasn't it a financial choice between Harden and Westbrook?

They blew it. When you have a guy like Harden, you rarely will get back anything that comes close to his value, no matter how many players you stack up.
Franchise changing trade.

Between Ibaka and Harden. LOL i was being generous saying top 15.. Some think he's top 10. But either way, a 23 year old franchise player for right now seem to be peanut..
