Gordon Hayward- what will the best offers be?

Post#1 » by Litany » Sun Jun 29, 2014 11:53 pm

Hayward is a RFA this summer and I'm curious what people think teams will offer to try to pry him away from the Jazz.

Whoever goes after him will likely have to offer about $2 M more than he is "worth" to try and cause Jazz not to match.

Jazz are saying they'll match anything, which makes me worried we'll end up overpaying him.

Throw out a dollar figure!

For everything he brings to the table, I'd say he's worth 8-10 million per year. Wouldn't be surprised if someone offered something ridiculous like 12-15.

Jazz will have to overpay to keep him.

I would give him 4/40M. But I bet some gm is going to offer him 4/50-55M.

Ideally on a championship contending team you want to pay him under or at 10 mil per. He's no better than the 3rd/4th best player on a title contender, but he does have the potential to be better than that one day. So, someone will pay for what he might be. Which is always a scary proposition for whoever signs him.

I actually saw him and his g/f out and about the other day. I forgot he's a free agent.

I think the Jazz should let him skate to whoever gives him an offer. Alec Burks should be the priority and he's due up after next season. If you sign both Hayward and Burks, you're basically committing to mediocrity.

So who should Utah commit to instead?

Gordon Hayward
Chandler Parsons
Klay Thompson

All somewhat similar, all white(lol), all young starting caliber SG/SFs, all gonna get paid.

4/42-48 sounds about right to me.

They all deserve Batum money, 10-12 per year. I think that set the standard for players that are a cut above your standard 3&D guys. Good enough to run plays for and take a bit of the offensive load, but not good enough to run your entire offense through.

Imo Gordon shouldn't get more than 4/42, because he hasn't proved anything in terms of winning at the nba level.

Klay 4/48
Parsons 4/48

Kawhi 4/52

Why are you so quick to use up your cap space? I think Utah should extend Burks after next year and go forward with financial flexibility.

Utah will be able to afford Hayward and Burks just fine. If you can find us a free agent we can spend our money on, please let us know.

Until then, its better to risk spending money on these guys than losing year after year, with cap space, and hoping one day, maybe a star player will decide to come to Utah.
