Suns and Bledsoe on the Verge of Irreparable Relationship

Post#1 » by Shem » Tue Jul 29, 2014 10:42 pm

Chris Haynes with the report:

Things aren’t looking good when it comes to negotiations between the Phoenix Suns and their restricted free agent star guard Eric Bledsoe.

According to league sources, an “ominous development” has arisen with sides still “very far apart” in contract negotiations. It has even escalated to the point where the “relationship is on the express lane to being ruined,” a source with knowledge of the situation informed CSNNW.com.

The Suns offered Bledsoe a four-year, $48 million deal with declining salaries each year, two sources said. That proposal was quickly turned down. Bledsoe’s camp is putting a max price tag on the player Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek called “a Top-10 player in the NBA in coming years”, another source said.

Phoenix has made it known publicly and repeatedly that they intend to match any offer sheets competitors issue out to Bledsoe. This tactic has succeeded in scaring away any potential suitors so far. However, the effort by the Suns to undermine Bledsoe’s market is what has angered Bledsoe and his reps and led to a standoff in which the relationship is now on the verge of being irreparable, we’re told.

He'll get the Luol Deng treatment and end up with less money. 4/$48M is more than fair

Bledsoe and his agent are being completely unrealistic. Someone who has never played a full season as a starter and is an injury concern is not worth a max contract. They should be happy PHX has offered as much as they have with no one else to bid against. I would have offered less. Something like 4/40.

Why is everyone so convinced the Suns have "scared" other teams away? If an organization wants Bledsoe, and they think he's worth max money, they would make an offer.

The truth is, even though Bledsoe isn't worth the max, that's not what's in his way. Even guys who aren't worth it get paid. He hasn't proven that he can stay on the court and for that reason he won't get paid what he wants.

So can't he take the QO and then just become a UFA next off-season? Better than trying to bully your team into giving you a contract.

What if he can't stay healthy again? Lets say he misses 25-30 games next season (which isn't unrealistic) would there be teams left that would offer him more than 4/48M?

he COULD do that but if he gets injured again, he would wish he took the 48.

Exactly - He's unsure of his own health, yet blames the Suns for not getting a max contract? lulz

If another team was willing to offer Bledsoe the money he wants it would have happened by now. He would have been good on the Rockets IMHO.

Just curious, what teams left have enough to offer Bledsoe the max?

GOAT tankers Sixers, who don't want any wins that they might accidentally pick up with Bledsoe

Wtf irreparable? Bledsoe feeling disrespected?

PHX just offering him what he is shown he is worth, no one else offered him a max why should they. EB should go for a one year deal(he scared?) and try again next year.

Pretty much just the Sixers. Any other team would have to trade someone or do a sign and trade with Phoenix.

Sorry Bledsoe, this is a business. The Suns are smart because they understand that he has no leverage in this negotiation.

He is only worth what people are willing to offer him.

He should take the 48, be a wealthy man, and strike another large contract in 4 years.

What a brat.

I buy it. We're witnessing the same thing in Detroit with Monroe. Agent telling his client that he's worth an unrealistic amount (MAX!?), when the market doesn't bear it, and the team doesn't have a particular need for your services.
Sounds like both teams (Detroit and Phoenix) have made reasonable offers. Probably a bit more on the favorable side of the team, but what are they supposed to do? Over bid themselves?
Life isn't always fair. Take the team offer or sign the QO an begone.
