Brilliant spot. I agree that it might well be to give him more range, he can probably also add more backspin on the ball that way.

I and1'd you, but regret it now as I have this sudden urge to procrastinate and analyse Paul George's shooting mechanic in absurd detail...

I remember watching his college highlights and thinking something was slightly off with his shot but I could never pick out what it was.. Thanks for this!

Ok Ive tried it out today. Definetly increases spin and force. But not in a pushy kind of way. Makes you not rely on your feet and legs so much. You just have to get up and flick it. Very interesting!

Great find OP! It's like how you shoot a floater, but he's using it for a jumpshot.

You could argue this makes him an even more talented shooter than we thought, since he has less control over the ball using his triceps to control the release than he would using only the fingers and wrist.

This is really interesting to think about.

that's an impressive eye you got there. even after your description, i had to look at some of the gifs at least a couple of times before I really started noticing it.

I just tried shooting like that and I got a lot more power in my shot. Accuracy not so much.

Randomly came across this. Never noticed, and I actually do this myself.

It almost looks like playing volleyball. He just lets it go in the air for a moment and then slaps it.

I shoot a knuckleball and have all my life. It's so hard to change your shot, but I may have to try this.

Don't man. My brother shoots the same way, and it's money. Such a weird shot, no spin, just floats and dies on the rim and goes in.

I used to shoot like Bill Cartwright when I was a kid/teenager, and my shot was water from anywhere. I got beat up by guys defending me for it, intentional jail ball ****, then, people resorted to talking **** and making fun of it, so amidst Kobe's hey day during the mid 2000's, I changed it up. I still had it, but it was never the same, and then it became a mental thing and I would go back and forth, until I completely lost my old shot and with it the range I had to chuck up the ball from half court with Cartwright's throw motion vs Kobe's hand and wrist shot, which I didn't have the strength for to shoot from very deep.

Keep doing what works for you, honestly.

Saying this as a Lillard fan, but he's not one of the best shooters in the league. His 3 pt % is worse than pretty much every elite PG including Lowry, Paul, Hill, Irving, Walker, Curry and Thomas. Only Westbrook and Wall are worse.

I mean he really only has one meh year, a down shooting year in 2014-15. Outside of that in the other 4/5 seasons he's averaged about 38% from 3 on 7 attempts a game. Considering the crazy degree of difficulty on a lot of his shots and how much he shoots off the dribble, that's pretty great.
