All i can say is Bledsoe's got a better agent than Monroe.
Poor poor Greg Monroe. The biggest loser of this NBA offseason.

They have all the leverage and still buckle and give a bad contract?

Man Bledsoe was good in the 40 games he played but damn. That could be the crippler for the Suns. Reminds of the Eric Gordon deal (who the Suns also gave out but N.O. matched...stupidly.)!

Well played Rich Paul.

Bledsoe is a very good player, but that's a ton of cash for a guy that is extremely unlikely to have healthy knees in a couple years.
Monroe, who the Pistons stonewalled, is a good player (not as good as Bledsoe), but he's never had a significant injury and plays in a way that's much less likely to lead to problems.
Interesting choices by both franchises.

Not that Bledsoe is a bad player, but I can't think of a worse player currently on a 5yr ~max deal

Not only that but they have 4 PGs on the roster, 3 of whom would get big minutes on just about any team in the NBA.
Dragic
Bledsoe
Isiah Thomas
Tyler Ennis
They didn't NEED to give Bledsoe a 70 million contract. Especially after all this posturing and negativity and PR war. Who is running the Suns? David Kahn's ghost?

This was Phoenix realizing other teams might value Bledsoe this highly (at least Minny). Saw what happened with Monroe. Didn't want to lose him for nothing. If the cap goes up as planned, this isn't so bad. At the very least this is a tradable contract in their minds. I could see him gone within the year. Unless he gets injured .

Klay Thompson's max contract doesn't look as bad anymore. Not that it's good, but not as bad.

They all called him a fool but he got a better deal, maybe the guy has one ounce of talent after all
Still made by LeBron but I doubt LBJ was at the negotiating table

I wonder if the GM's are (Please Use More Appropriate Word) (probably) or if they know something about the cap jump that we don't know. There's been a lot of overpayments this summer.
