Brian Shaw and the Nuggets - why are they so bad ?

This roster is not radically different from the one George Karl commanded.
This team has dramatically under-performed since he left.
Is it coaching ? Brian Shaw was supposed to be Phil's finest assistant and next protege and young coaching star
But honestly when I watch the Nuggets I see nothing but isoball and no movement, the worst I have seen in the league this year. The lakers look better

They changed a style of play that worked to their advantage for the worse -- quite asinine considering how effective it was, absolutely exhausting opponents when playing at home. Incompetent management and coaching coupled with injuries and playing great role players like stars will do this.
Shame what they did to George Karl; karma is biting them right back.

George Karl is amazing.
Brian Shaw is garbo.

Maybe Iggy's impact on the team was understated.

well hearing that soundbite from the huddle at time out, he is not coaching much there, just talking obvious. kinda like jackson at warriors. also they dont seem to be runing any plays, just passing around looking for 3 or guy beating someone 1v1

They have a very deep roster of players who are just OK. The closest they have to a star is Faried (Gallo maybe?), and have a rotation of like 13 guys so no real "go to" lineup. Shaw doesn't seem to know how to fit the pieces together in a matchup, so its essentially like a kid in a candy shop in a way, he's just got more options than he knows what to do with and it ends up with what they've got going. Just looking at tonight, they've got 12 guys who've played to Cleveland's 10. Basically, Shaw's got too many toys to play with.

Management got a little too big for their britches. They thought their great records under Karl were because of the superior talent they had accumulated, and had nothing to do with his coaching. They fired him after what, a 56 win season I think it was? LOL. But hey you know, the good news is, the Nuggets don't have to worry about losing in the playoffs any more.

They lost the Executive of the Year and the Coach of the Year and Andre Iguodala in the same offseason

They have a really deep roster with solid players, probably too deep to get a consistent rotation worked out. They need to trade some of those "solid" players for a star player

They need to let Ty Lawson be 'the guy' when hes going that team will be going.

They got the wrong coach, it happens. We now know why Shaw has been passed on by so many teams now.
Firing Karl was the right move. when you consistently lose in the first round and not be able to upset even 1 team during that period, it really is time to move.
The positive I see out of this for Denver is that they finally start to rebuild.

It's a really weird roster. Their bench isn't a whole lot different then their starting lineup and they go 12 guys deep every game. You never know who's going to have a good or bad game on that team.
Honestly I think the Nuggets will be the next team to go in rebuild mode. They need to start over.

This. IMO they have too many OK guys and not a go-to guy, they are deep for no reason. Denver should try to move McGee or Movgoz to get some high percentage shooting. Afflalo and Foye have to go, they don't fit.

they should play a high pressure defense like the "40 minutes of hell" Nolan Richardson had. With the altitude and depth they could run you to death on offense and defense

Denver really looks like one of those teams (along with Milwaukee) who need to define who their starters are, and who the bench is, and stick with it, instead of trying to play everyone 20-25 minutes per game. The constant random injuries they seem to get every year probably doesn't help either.
And similarly to Milwaukee (although a few more years along, which is the concern), the roster is full of guys whose potential outweighs their production and athleticism and length outweighs their skill and basketball smarts.

Add the Knicks to that list too. Teams who have an equal playing time thing going on because they have no idea who should be out there.

This sounds right. Though it is really odd that a team's main problem is that they are "too deep".
Another problem could be overall team consistency. You would think with 12 average to good players, you could count on a different guy every night to show up, and that you could switch in players having cold nights with ones that are doing well that evening.
Is the problem more the coaching or more the players? Or are they both about equal to blame?

The Knicks simply suck, they just have a bunch of scrubs when Denver could trade some guys to get an all-star.
