Kentavious Caldwell-Pope found humor in Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris' verbal blast.

Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy questioned Morris' credentials.

But both obviously disagreed with Morris' assessment that the Pistons' second-year shooting guard "doesn't have any heart."

He said it after the Suns' 88-86 victory over the Pistons at the Palace when Caldwell-Pope missed a triple in the closing seconds that would have probably won it.

"Caldwell-Pope got it and you know he doesn't have any heart, so we knew he was going to miss," Morris said.

Van Gundy wasn't going to let such an insult slide.

"I'm not quite sure - maybe he knows - I'm not quite sure what Markieff Morris has accomplished in the league that gets him to the point of mouthing off," Van Gundy said after today's practice. "I mean, I don't like the mouthing off anyway.

"It seems to me you should at least participate in a playoff game before you do. But maybe not, maybe that's not the standard anymore."

The verbal volleys probably are because the two had to be separated after getting chest-to-chest to trash talk in the second quarter.

"A lot of emotions were running," Caldwell-Pope said. "We exchanged a few words with each other. So obviously, out of frustration, he said that."

Was a really pathetic and low blow from Markieff.

I wish SVG would come back to the Magic. Hell of a coach.

Despite what the current Pistons record says right now, he'll turn that team around.

Not sure what heart has to do with missing one jump shot. Even the most clutch players in the league miss potential game winners and shots to tie the game sometimes. By Markieff's logic, LeBron/Melo/Dirk aren't clutch either because they've all missed shots down the stretch of close games.

Love the fact that SVG stands up for his players.

What? I can understand the comment if KCP passed the ball away, but him missing a shot because he "doesn't have any heart" is mind boggling

Kieff hasn't carved a name for himself in this league yet. He's a solid player, but yeah he hasn't accomplished anything.

The shot going in or not isn't dependent on whether or not you have "heart".

I always enjoy a good Stan Van Gundy put-down. He and his brother have a way with words.

Gotta love role players talking **** about other role players.

Let's hear him fling crap at an opponent BEFORE a game. As someone else said, doing it when your team has already won and won't see the other team until the next calendar year is just some weak ****.

Question to Piston fans:

What was SVG like during opening night intros? I can't believe I forgot to tune in; of all the story lines heading into the season (Lebron, Kobe, Rose, Lance, etc), I was looking forward to that moment the most. Was he perhaps a little more upbeat, trying to make a good impression on the fans? Or was he in mid tenure form?

well his point was that since he has no heart he wasnt going to make it. those other guys could have made it or they could have missed it. but "they" (him and his siamese twin) knew he would miss because he doesnt have a heart.

seems pretty silly to me but I am fine with the trash talking. just gotta back it up.

Markieff shoots 32% from 3. What's his excuse then?

So SVG thinks Markieff Morris hasn't accomplished anything because the 48-34 Phoenix Suns didn't make the playoffs last season? I guess the playoff experience is why he has given Josh Smith free reign to chuck long jump shots.

SVG is sticking up for his player. It's not like SVG is throwing these shots out of nowhere. Any criticism Markieff receives from SVG he asked for.

He should make a name for himself on the court before building a reputation with his mouth.

SVG completely owned Markieff...

And he did the right thing. Pope's a young player and needs this kind of support from his coach and he got it.

It's great to have Stan back..

I like Markieff talking smack and I like Stan talking smack. I like smack talk. You always want to get in the opponents head.
