What are the Sixers doing?

Basically what it says on the tin.

I can understand trading away older guys like Turner and Hawes, or other veterans. But now they're trading away young pieces like MCW for picks? I don't get it. And giving up McDaniels is just bizarre. He's the exact kind of steal you hope for with a 2nd round pick.

So anyway, can anyone shed some light on this? Sixers fans?

Oh, and I'm not trying to flame here. I'm just legitimately curious as to what's going on in Philly.

Just a continuation of the pattern by my eye. They keep selling assets for younger assets.

Nerlins, you might want to keep your bags packed. Just in case.

I guess they're looking at their trades as a way to gain value in the long run.

But I mean, you have to stop trading your players eventually...

As far as McDaniels goes I just have no idea. I guess his shooting regressed and they didn't see him as a long term piece. Still, they got less value for him than the Knicks did for Pablo - from the same team! I don't get that.

MCW is understandable. He has glaring holes in his game and if the Sixers don't want to move forward with him it's best to get a really high pick.

Lol, if you had asked yesterday 'What has more value, the Lakers pick or MCW?', every vote, and I do mean every vote, would have been for the LA pick... Whatever, just moving the posts.

I don't like the KJ trade as a fan, however I'd have to assume that Sixers' management had a better understanding of his market value and obviously their own willingness to match.

At some point you have to start assembling an actual team. Can't keep trading young players for younger potential players.

MCW may have won rookie of the year but his quality is questionable, he's extremely inefficient and a terrible shooter.

Maybe Hinkie would rather keep the rebuild tank rolling for yet another season longer than he would have, for the chance at another try at point guard?

It does leave me scratching my head also though, I'm surprised it's happened.

They just punted on MCW. Saw enough, put him in the Hinkie computer.....and would rather hitch their wagon to D'Angelo Russell. Sometimes you get it wrong. Don't prolong the agony.

The Cleveland Browns may do the same thing with Johnny Football. (May not) Sometimes you just admit your mistake.

I thought you'd be lucky to get a guy like McDaniels with a second rounder. I mean how do you win the lottery and then turn that money back in to play the lottery again? Hinkie needs to sign up for gamblers anonymous.

MCW I wouldn't care about but McDaniels would really piss me off if I were a 76ers fan. Why the hell would you make that move?

I had an old sandwich, should have traded it for Covington.

MCW is also old for his draft. He's older than Brandon Knight. Depending on what happens with the Laker pick they potentially get a higher pick than MCW was or around the same pick.

And like Gallagher said above, Hinkie obviously has run his simulation a million times to get a % on that Laker pick being conveyed in the top 10 this year or next. If the Lakers sign a bunch of free agents this summer and turn that pick into mid-teens and up, so be it. Not far from where MCW was picked. But Hinkie has run more simulations than you can possibly fathom to calculate a value on that pick.

I'm guessing they wnat to see how Noel and Embiid pan out before they actually build a team.

I'm assuming they are planning on drafting Mudiay or Russell now? Knight is a good player but he's not a PG. He's a SG in a PGs body, so they need to land a PG in the draft so they can play Knight off the ball.

The KJ McDaniels contract was problematic. Probably a big reason for the move.

Hinkie may also really like Isaiah Canaan.

Remember he poached Robert Covington, former Houston Rocket, from the D-League, for nothing.

I'm not a fan of the KJ trade, but the MCW trade could be very good for them. Adding two more top ten picks to the youth they are assembling could be very good. Let's not make MCW out to be the answer for them at point. They gave him the opportunity to showcase his ability, and they sold high. That's a good trade.

Knight and MCW are both 23 -- MCW is 2 months older

They hit the lottery, inflated his #s with minutes in a fast paced O, but lost the prize when KJ and his agent turned down the normal 2nd round contract. Now you're paying for those inflated #s in restricted free agency. He'll obviously hope the next 2nd rounder accepts the Parsons' contract.

Mcw is maybe the worst rookie of the year of all time. Unlike say, Mike Miller, he doesn't have a really good, near-elite obvious NBA skill. the only danger in that pick is that the Lakers sign new players like Durant and love before paying it, at which point it loses value.
