I'm tired of hearing how the league is changing and small ball is taking over. Compete myth. Everyone wants to look at Golden St. Just stop. Golden St won because they have great talent. Curry is arguably the greatest shooter in NBA history. If Curry isn't on the team Golden St could go small ball all they wanted but they wouldn't win because Curry isn't on the team. You still need great talent.

People say big men aren't as relevant. That is true to a certain extent. We don't have the same type of bigs as the past but you still need good big men. And small ball works well against big men who aren't an offensive threat. If you big man can score then yeah small ball can look great because they can put their 6'8 Draymond Green type player on your Center knowing full well that Center won't command a double team and won't look to score. Do you think any team would go small ball against a team with Shaq in it? Hell no. Olajuwon? Nope. Kareem? Nope. Duncan? Not a chance.

It comes down to how good your gif men are. If you have a phyical big son who can score and command a double team then teams would be playing with fire if they go small ball. Ok the Center might look lost trying to guard a guy at the 3 point line and you might score on him if you pull Olajuwon out or Shaq or Duncan but in the other end that Center will feast on whoever is guards them. Small ball is not taking over. Enough.

I was just telling my girlfriend about the advantages of small ball, but she seemed unimpressed.

A small ball would definitely help the ball go through the rim in easier

Don't worry bigman era is coming. Okafor-Embiid-Noel-Davis-Cousins-Drummond-Turner-Gobert, these guys have immense potential. Of course some will fail to reach their ceilings for various reasons but I'm still hopefull about all of them.

The argument is that small ball isn't taking over because hypothetical Shaq would own the matchup against Draymond Green?

I'm 100% certain that this thread would not exist if the Sixers had Wiggins, Russell, and Noel instead of Embiid, Okafor, and Noel.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start another stupid "Arguing over Sixer narratives" thread. But I was serious about my post: If the team didn't have 3 interior players as their best prospects, then I don't think that this thread is made. And to be honest, when us Laker fans thought that we were getting Okafor, we made the exact same arguments about small-ball.

Noel, Drummond and Gobert are defensive monsters so you can put green on them. Embiid yet to be healthy, Cousins yet to make playofss, saw green on davis working for 30+ points and still losing.

Wrong. I couldn't care less if Embiid and Noel and Okafor were not on the Sixers. This thread would still be made. The entire history of the NBA always had good big men lead their teams. Steph Curry is a phenomenal shooter. You don't find many like him. It's about great players. It's difficult to win a title in this league without a good big man.

If there was another Shaq or Olajuwan small ball would not exist anymore

Only thing big ball has done since Shaq is ruin Sotas 04 title aspirations

That's the thing; Miami turned the league toward small ball, taking advantage of the fact that their were no generational big men to compete against...just good big men...so, you force them off the court and make teams match up to your strengths. Miami boasted Wade, Battier Allen, and LeBron. Small ball was obvious. No one could really match that, until San Antonio did. Same for Golden State. You've got Green, Iggy, Curry, and Klay. No one has been able to match that. You build to your strengths. Someday soon, another big will come along that's just too good for small ball, and teams will adapt again. They'll find size to compete. It's cyclical.

It's like the run and shoot offense or the wildcat offense in pro football. It catches the opponents off guard and they can't figure out how to respond instantly. That's all. Bigs will be back. Already, Miami has changed it's approach back to the more traditional with far more familiar roles for their big men. The tide will change again. It's just a matter of who's going to come along and force the change...

Golden State has big men though. Bogut and David Lee are both quality guys. Then Speights, too? They could have gone bigger. They just chose to play their best guys. It worked.
