That Brooklyn pick isn't looking as valuable right now
Post#1 » by dockingsched » Today, 8:57 pm

So lots of the hopes from Boston for improving are heavily based on this Brooklyn pick they own, and so far Brooklyn isn't looking too bad, at least not a guaranteed top 3 pick it was considered before specially when you have teams like the Magic that may not win 15 games the way they look.

add to that Boston not looking all that great themselves, and Boston's glamorized position may be taking a hit this season.

think brooklyn can keep this up and ruin the value of that pick?

It's a deep draft that even a top 6 or 8 pick holds a lot of value

It's 2 games lol but yes a competitive game with Boston and a win over Indiana is better than expected so far.

Let's not mess around here, they are still a bottom 3 team 95 times out of 100.

Way too early right now, but if the Nets are even semi-bad (i.e. 10th worst team in the league), then not only does the value of the 2017 Nets pick plummet but the 2018 Nets pick as well. In some sense, the correct hedge was to trade either of the picks before the start of the season to cover the case in which the Nets were semi-bad.

Until today, I never realized how bad the outlook for the Celtics would be if the Nets were just plain mediocre. They really do not need 9th or 10th pick in this draft as they have so many players already. If they stock pile on good but not transcendent talent, they will just be replacing their old good players with young good players without ever becoming dominant.

It's only 2 games lol.

Like what I've seen from them so far, but I remember they almost beat the Warriors last year when the Warriors were 10-0 and ended up going 24-0. Brook Lopez missed a bunny tip-in at the rim with .01 left on the clock in a tie game.

The Nets will win some games they're not supposed to, they'll be competitive in games they shouldn't be competitive in, but at the end of the day, I still expect them to lose a ton of games and be one of the worst teams in the league. They're just not very talented.

But I do appreciate the fact that they'll play hard, which is such a welcome change from the D-Will years.

lol, wasn't expecting a thread like this after game 2 of the reg season. I mean the win over Pacers tonight was great but it's far too early to draw any possibilities like that. The team still has a lot of holes and a general lack of talent.

Well, Brooklyn is going to play hard that's for sure. They stocked up on a bunch of guys who have something to prove. However, if they have any injuries, they will be pretty much finished. For them, the biggest thing is, staying as close to .500 as possible.

The All Premature Reactions Thread

Mods, please move all premature reactions in this thread :D

What we have collected so far:

Warriors are not a "super team"
Nets pick to Boston not "valuable"
Joel Embiid is going to be a NBA superstar
The Lakers will battle for the playoffs
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am not going.

If Tylor Johnson is on board I would second that, but this Nets has a big hole at backup PG, and their wings full of one dimension players.

Most players are expendable except for Lin. If Lin is done BK is done.

Idk how much the Nets will win (somewhere between 25-40 IMO). But what I can tell you is that we are a MUCH better team than last year.

Harrison Barnes will live up to his contract.

OKC will miss the playoffs.

Anthony Davis will have a Kobe Bryant 05/06 season.

Mavs will have their first losing record since 2000. Nothing drastically bad, something like 38-44.

Barnes is a superstar now, Davis will average 40 points and 15 rebounds this year, Westbrook will average a triple double, the Warriors will barely win 55 games, did I miss something? :) Oh, I do think Leonard will win MVP btw, but that's not based on two games, rather his mindset, and just the fact that the Spurs - in my opinion - will win more games than the Cavs.

He is fat though. It is pretty clear that he doesn't really care about winning at this point, with his injury history, he should be around 10% body fat. It's only a matter of time until he is out with an ankle or groin issue. And nobody get me started on this "he is this type" bs, he doesn't have the discipline to stop eating as much, and regulate his caloric intake, it's this simple.

I'll be Mr pedantic- Nearly every fan thinks their team will be better than the year before. About half of them are guaranteed to be wrong.

Still, you guys are much better than people thought though 2 games. I guess we will see.

He was never nimble but very strong for a PG, both him and CP3 have the same body structure but I guess Chris Paul works a little harder to prep himself.

Would be a shame if Brook Lopez got traded.

Curry is going to have to do some thinking when GSW finishes .500 and CHA goes undefeated this season.

Not that this is bold.

Hornets a top 4 seed. Lost Al, Superstar lin. But got MKG back and Belli and Hibbert to replace those two. They were 48 wins last year. Dont be surprised at 50-52 wins.

Nets will be a 35 win team. They try hard. Lin is back to linsanity levels.

Northwest division gets at least 4 teams in the playoffs. The team that doesnt make it is between the wolves and thunder.

Two games in, they are playing average to above average ball on either end. We'll see if that lasts, but this ridonk-slow pace they're playing at appears to be working. Odds of DMC scoring 30+ ppg on the season and maintaining 16 FTA/g or 50% from 3? Basically zero, as he's sure as hell not going to be a 66% TS player on the season, so that'll suck some of the life out of that offense over time, even if he settles to what remains a very strong level. So we can look forward to them tailing off some, but they are showing signs that they aren't going to blow. We'll see what happens moving forward.
