Glad Morey matched.... good player on a very team friendly deal.
Even though D-Mo's injury history is a concern ..... when you look at how the deal is structured it is worth the risk for what D-Mo showed a couple of seasons ago.

Wouldn't be surprised if he is traded soon. Seems like a toxic situation at this point.

thats what i was thinking... Donatas can't be happy, he seemed aggravated at how the Rockets negotiated with him. Who knows though, maybe he only cared about getting paid and now that he's been paid, all is well

If I understand correctly, he can't be traded till next season now

He can't be traded this season. And I believe he has to approve any deal next season.
As for the situation, I have seen nothing but professionalism from Motiejunas. I doubt that he causes any waves in Houston. It will be fine here.
I won't be surprised if he has a new agent soon, though.

Most of it is unguaranteed money. The Nets were too cautious with their offer and Houston had no big risk in matching.

This is my impression of the rule as well.

It's only $5 million guaranteed and reportedly voidable after two seasons. No one wanted to take a big gamble on the injury he claims doesn't exist.

Sean Marks helped Morey get a better deal than Morey could negotiate himself. Brooklyn's front office is amateur and D-Mo is a dummy for signing that offer sheet after holding out for so long instead of playing on the QO.

D-Mo misplayed it and was banking on the Rockets sucking without him and being desperate to sign him. Once he saw that we were fine without him he had to give in. No team wanted him or else they could have had him. The threat of Morey matching also discouraged suitors during free agency. Morey played this perfectly.

Agreed. Now he has to fit Mike offense or he won't see a lot playing time.

I don't understand the Morey criticism part. Dmo couldn't get Morey to go that high without another team giving Dmo leverage, it wasn't a case of Morey trying to get Dmo to agree to something that low

I feel like I am missing something here. Filling in the numbers, doesn't that basically read: Dmo couldn't get Morey to go up to a starting 8.5m salary, it wasn't a case of Morey trying to get Dmo to agree to a 7m starting salary.

Pretty simple tbh.
What he should have done:
Sign QO for $4.4 million.
If healthy, become UFA next year, get big $$$ contract.
If not healthy, gets $4.4m total
What happened:
Let QO expire. Signed Nets deal 35m/4 year or 8.75m/year or so, read on. This deal is really bad.
If healthy, locked into a bargain basement deal for less than 9m per year for 4 years.
If not healthy, Rockets can actually cut him by January 10, 2017. He only gets 5m for 2016-2017. Rockets can even decide to keep him in January, then elect to not pickup his second year by March 1, 2017. So Rockets can keep him on the roster until March for $8.5m this year.
And his last two years are fully unguaranteed (with decision dates of July 7, 2017 and July 7, 2018).
What did his gamble get him? Probably approximately 4m in guaranteed money, but lost an opportunity to get the real big bucks in FA. Motiejunas needs to fire his agent.
This deal is a disaster:
