Armed with a hope that Carmelo Anthony will eventually waive his no-trade clause, the New York Knicks have reached out to the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers to probe their interest in a trade, league sources told The Vertical.

Knicks president Phil Jackson is determined to find a destination and deal that Anthony would agree to accept before the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline, league sources said.

Jackson is determined to rid the roster of Anthony and his contract, and start rebuilding around Kristaps Porzingis, league sources said.

This is also in addition to being offered to the Cavs for Love, which was rejected.

If he doesn't get moved it's going to be pretty awkward in NY

If their asking price for Melo is Love they won't have any luck. But honestly the Knicks might just be better off selling low and moving past this awkward phase by committing to building around Porzingis.

For the Celtics it really is tricky to make the salaries work. Especially with his 15% trade kicker. Curious to know if Phil is selling low or actually trying to get star level assets in return.

Melo and O'Quinn for Johnson, Zeller and Jerebko works in the trade machine - who says no? Knicks get two expiring's and Zeller is young and has a short 2 year contract.

I don't see the Clippers working out whatsoever, they'd have to give up one of their big 3 to make the salaries work, all of whom have much better value than Melo does and DJ and Griffin would just be in the way of Porzingis anyways.

For who? He's not going to trade his son and that's the only way the trade can happen under the cap unless Blake is involved

Don't think the Cs want to mortgage their cap space this offseason by dealing anything for Melo. He doesn't put us into the finals so what's the point.

Didn't say it was a great deal at all (because it's not) but the salaries work....but realistically speaking, how much do you expect to get in return for Melo?

He's not going to approve a deal to Boston. Lakers Nets Cavs or Clippers probably. If we learned anything from the Bulls/Melo negotiations a few years back its that LaLa was a major factor in him staying in NYC.

But if by some unlikely chance he would approve a deal to Boston then they need to get a rim protector as well and keep Bradley. Melo plays ZERO defense. None.

Rumor has it Phil just basically wants to get rid of Melo's contract even if he isn't getting superb value in return... And the Clips can still find a way even without Rivers

Well I don't think the celtics are giving up any of the nets picks for him. Regardless I don't think there would be any chance he waives his no trade clause for Boston. Since the cavs shot him down that really only leave the clippers.
