If Dan Gilbert knows LeBron is leaving, why not trade him to Boston now?

Seems logical, no? What is another loss in the Finals (if not the ECF) worth to Gilbert? With the luxury tax, will the Cavs even be in the black this year? If Lebron bolts, and the Cavs get nothing, they will be basement dwellers for the next 10-plus years.

No trade clause.
Plus you don't trade the best player in the game.

So the Celtics should trade Brown, Tatum, both picks, Crowder, Bradley, and Smart for 1 year of LBJ before he bolts?

Then he will want Stevens fired and want to have them sign all of his friends. When they don't win, he'll claim he doesn't have enough help and the franchise has no future and he'll leave.

No thanks. Enjoy LBJ for this year Cleveland fans. I hope he goes to LA. Then it's pretty much a free pass to the finals for Boston every year, with a bright future in the picks.

Free pass to the finals?

I really, really doubt that. Even with Hayward right now, the Celtics aren't assuredly better than the Raptors or Wizards. Would they be the favorite? Yes. But they're nowhere close to the Cavs level, which is actually a free pass

Bugger that, we wouldn't have that selfish, egocentric mercenary at the Celtics for love nor money. Boston basketball actually stands for something, the Lebron type (of me first personality) will never be accepted with the Celtics creed ...

Thats why I give Indiana credit...PG said Im leaving and they at least got something for him, Clips the same thing, Gilbert should have a mandatory mtng and ask straight up what are your plans....if he beats around the bush u put him on the market

Harsh much? and calling LeBron selfish doesn't make sense.

To be honest, LeBron would fit very well with this Celtics team. Though he wouldn't ever join the Celtics...

Gilbert can't trade him, he would forever become the guy who traded Lebron (twice...)

If (when) Lebron leaves, either Lebron will be the bad guy or Gilbert will be. Gilbert won with the Cleveland fans last time, but if (when) Lebron leaves now there will not be another homecoming so whoever wears the black hat is going to keep it.

Ya, Bron isn't exactly selfish. He puts influence on the FO to make certain moves but he isn't doing so out of self interest, he honestly thinks he is pushing for whats best to help him, and the team, win. If he made a deal with someone to push for Cleveland to sign them with the understanding that that player would like pay LBJ 25% of his contract or something insane, that would be selfish.

I don't love LBJ, he does seem like a doucher, but some people are way too harsh.

I agree, if I were Dan Gilbert, I'd make a deal behind closed doors. Ask Bron where he wants to go, and if he's willing to waive the NTC...then you do it. Grab some serious young talent and put yourself in a position to stay relevant for the next 3-5 years.

We all know if Bron just decides to walk...Cavs won't even make the playoffs. Is one more trip to the finals worth it? To just finish 2nd again? I wouldn't put it past Dan Gilbert if he tries trading him.

Because he'll probably win the East again and he's just one bad Durant/Curry ankle from winning a 2nd title

Lol at the thread title.

But clearly there is some things going on behind the scenes that would piss me off as a fan. The timing of the firing of Griffin was idiotic. Right before the draft and free agency without a contingency plan is just dumb.

Props to Chauncey who just went up a few notches in my book. And on top of that, the rumor that he was lowballed.

They need to clear some things out for sure. You cant run a team like this. Or maybe you can, but it sure goes against how I'd do it. Lol

Is this far fetched....Miami trades for Melo, Paul leaves Houst after 1 yr and him, Wade and LB join Melo in Miami....can it happen $ wise?

Celtics don't want nor need lebron.

Also lebron isn't leaving. In his 2014 letter to cavs fans he said he would stay even through tough times as he wants to retire there. Obviously not talking about a 1 day contract

Ainge is ready to do Lebron for Terry Rozier + Yabusele rights + Top 20 protected 2021 pick. Take it or leave it. Who says no ?

With all due respect, you cannot say things LBJ has done (such as the 30 min Decision ESPN special) can be construed as anything other than selfish.

Plus you read into rumours that Lebron will leave Cleveland again if the Cavs/Gilbert won't give him a Dubs beating/challenging supporting cast, and it's hard to say that Lebron is anything else but an egomaniac. I really hope he stays at Cleveland post 2018, or i think it would irrevocably destroy his legacy tbh

I'm not so sure adding Hayward will offset potentially losing Crowder, Avery and/or Smart. These three definitely gave Boston its gritty identity along with the recently departed Olynyk. Losing two starters and two top reserves is sure to disrupt team chemistry.

Not necessarily... another shot at the title isn't something to be pissed away. No such risk for Indiana.

Also consider the media is being used as leverage to pressure Gilbert and pave the way for future options. It's up to Gilbert to figure out how to do better than putting washed up one-way players around James, Love, and Irving; or they've got little chance to beat the W's.

You just said it yourself...their team as constructed isnt gonna beat GS so if they hold the mtng and Gilbert comes out and says look we tried to keep LB but he wuldnt commit so we did what was best for the franchise...nobody can be mad at Gilbert
