Im actually surprised. He might actually be a lifer. Great for OKC and their fans, and I think Westbrook definitely deserves praise for this move if it comes to fruition

This is the supermax extension that OKC offered which could add up to 5 years 200 million to his current contract, but it can also vary based on the cap. Info was taken from here

Does Thunder also own Paul George's bird rights?

if so, will he be legible for a SUPER max extension as well?

Imagine 400 Million dollar extensions for 2 players... from now until 2022.

I think this would be great for OKC, then George can't talk Russell into coming to LA. The recruitment would only be one way with Russell trying to convince George to stay in OKC. It also would allow the Thunder much more flexibility in terms of future trades if they have Russell locked up. It also would signal to George how much Russell believes in the franchise.

He deserves every penny. As much as I want him in LA, cant put a price or hate on loyalty. Mad respect for Russ.

A perrenial MVP candidate locked in through his prime is a good thing. Hope Presto can get the right pieces around him.

Getting George is a great start but sounds like he'll need to get a third guy to be able to keep George in OKC

1. The money is insane, hard to say no to that
2. OKC showed real iniative when they traded for PG
3. If Westbrook left now after Durant, he would come out worse than Durant. Would be disastrous PR

I strongly disagree that Westbrook would come out worse than Durant.

Durant gets ripped because he joined a team that:
1) broke the regular season wins record;
2) many people argue would've been back-to-back champions had Draymond Green not been suspended in Game 5;
3) had the 2-time MVP in Curry, perennial DPOTY in Draymond, and the best shooting backcourt with Curry and Klay;
4) he had down 3-1 and blew the series against.

There is no similar team for Westbrook to join. Even if there were such a team, Westbrook would be given a pass because the narrative is that Westbrook was left to carry a team by himself in the Western Conference. He not only led the Thunder to the playoffs in the West, he averaged a 30/10/10 triple double for the season and won league MVP.

If Durant was going to leave, a lot of non-Thunder/Warrior fans wanted him to join a team like the Celtics to help create another elite Eastern Conference team that would not only challenge LBJ but could be considered another legit contender.

If Westbrook left to join a superteam, the narrative would be that he's creating a parallel superteam to challenge the already existing dominant Warriors.
If he left to join another allstar but not a superteam, the narrative would be that it's ok because he had no shot of winning with the talent around him (assuming Paul George left too).
If he stays, Westbrook would be considered loyal and a true hero to OKC. People would say "Durant left Westbrook, but Westbrook stayed for Paul George."

I don't really see a way how Westbrook would come off looking bad here.

And KD should really hope that he can win at least 2 more titles while Westbrook and Thunder don't win anything. If Westbrook wins even 1 title in OKC and Durant managed to win only one or even 2, the narrative is going to be that Westbrook was the better player (despite what the stats say) and better leader.

now it'll be interesting to see if PG was just talking for PR reasons or if he actually would want to stay with Westbrook long-term

If this gets done, and I've believed it will, all it takes is a nice solid run into the playoffs and they might just have kept PG13 for the longhaul.

Russ - Roberson - PG13 - Patterson - Adams

a damned good starting 5 with guys like Kanter, Abrines, Felton, and McBuckets all coming off the bench is a pretty deep and balanced team, with some seriously good instant offense off the bench.
