Where would a prime Tim Duncan rank today?

Post#1 » by 1993Playoffs » Sat Sep 16, 2017 12:43 am

The general consensus in the Kobe thread seems to be top 2-5.

Would a prime Duncan be the best player in the league? I may take him over a past prime LeBron

I don't think he'd be the best player, it's kind of hard to say anyone is better than LeBron and Duncan is no different. I'd put him in the same area as Curry, though (so...top 2-5 as well).

Prime Duncan (around age 25) is probably better than 2017 LeBron.

I think I'd have him at the top. He'd really challenge LeBron at the very least.

Are you sure Current LeBron is better than peak/ prime Duncan? I may have to think about because the defensive gap is pretty big

First post ever...but I've been lurking

Would anyone LOL if I say, "He'll probably have the same impact as Horace Grant?"

Just kidding, we're talking a 20 and 10 defensive anchor, and currently we only have AD (?), so he'll at least be a top 8 player in this league.

Either best or second best player in the league. People forget how good Duncan really was in his prime.

Duncan would be the number 1 player for sure. He was already playing at a high level in his rookie year and kept getting better.

He'd be lucky to get a roster spot today.

The game and the players have just evolved too much.

I would put him at #1, but i wouldn't argue or be offended if some people put Lebron as #1 and Duncan as #2

I don't think he would be effective. Today's game relies on floor spacing and shooting. Duncan has neither of those. His ball handling is also weak. The rules have changed too to take away iso post ups. Duncan is too much of a post up iso player who can't shoot 3s. That way of scoring isn't really efficient anymore. 3>2.

He wouldn't be able to keep up with today's style of play as it's too fast for him. He can't guard any of today's super athletic evolutionary bigs like Draymond and KD. I think he's more of a center today so I have him below wherever Demarcus Cousins is ranked. He is probably closer to Deandre than DMC as he's a weak shooter and ball handler. The game has evolved too much, superior players and superior athletes. Duncan sucks just like prime Kobe and prime MJ.

Damn I thought you were being serious until I read the last sentence. Breathed a sigh of relief after that. Lol

Yet he managed to do all of those things fine under limited minutes at his older age before retirement. There's absolutely no way he wouldn't be one of the top names today.

Yeah, but if you consider LeBron's playoff run the offensive gap could be just as large tbh

Duncan would be either #1 or the closest #2 I've ever seen
