Good Read On Dwight Howard

Post#1 » by chrismikayla » Thu Sep 21, 2017 8:10 am

He speaks candidly about his "fall from grace" and how he's trying to redeem himself.

one of the biggest mental midget in the history of the nba

he's irredeemable imo. if you can't perform well with kobe, gasol and steve nash on the team, then u deserve to be ridiculed

**** u howard for making kobe miss out on his last chance for his 6th ring

Didn't buy the Jesus freak shtick before, don't buy it now. Why bring the lord's name in to explain away the inadequacies in your character?

He put up 17/12 with 2.5 blocks right off of a debilitating back injury and you wanna act like he was your worst player.

Of course I'm sure you'll be like "If you actually watch the games he was all empty stats and Kobe did everything".

Dwight's Lakers tenure is grossly exaggerated in its badness

Pretty good read. I think he threw away a great opportunity in LA. LA was committed to him. They had veteran leadership and a championship pedigree for Dwight to succeed. I still can't believe he didn't want to work with Kareem. Kareem turned Andrew into an All Star. Dwight could have learned so much about the game (mentally) from arguably the best center ever. Instead, he left and his career never recovered.

Howard is kind of a moron, but I don't see how he gets so much blame for things not working out with the Lakers.

I didn't see anybody else lining up to play with Kobe after that.

The problem with Howard was that having him on the team made Gasol a three point shooter.

He did perform well despite the back injury.

Dwight Howard ruined himself by listening to the advice of old-school players like Charles Barkley....who urged him to demand the ball in the post and operate out of that area. Dwight even attempted to learn post footwork from Hakeem but no one told Dwight that postplay is inefficient in the modern NBA and that Dwight doesn't even have the requisite skills to operate out of the post. And he doesn't have the footwork, post-skills, or soft touch like Hakeem.

Dwight would've been better utilized as a souped-up version of Tyson Chandler or DeAndre Jordan....and he was at one point. Dwight was a multiple time Defensive Player of the Year who got most of his points through quick catch-and-dunk situations. He was a legitimate MVP candidate and top-5 player in the league, surrounded by shooters and playmakers, and he knew what his role would be on a great team.

But then he chose to listen to Barkley....

So he clashed with Stan Van Gundy who didn't want him to play that way, and then he forced his way out of Orlando to play in LA. In LA, he clashed with Kobe for the exact reason why Van Gundy clashed with him. Dwight didn't know what his role was anymore on a good team, Dwight forgot who he was...because he listened to the stupid advice of old-school players who didn't understand how much the NBA has changed over the last 25 years.

even SVG acknowledged that Dwight was not playing like his old self and said the injury was bothering him and this was after Dwight pretty much got the guy fired.

So your going to blame Barkley for Howard's demise? Maybe you could blame every team he's played on, his wife, and his cable tv service while you're at it.

I find it amusing that he's never enjoyed the same level of success as a individual or on a team that he did with SVG in Orlando.

Not that I really disagree with him being a bit of a metal midget but the rest of this statement makes no sense at all.

I believe "man-child" was a very apt description of Dwight. He was very sheltered growing up and being a millionaire at 18 affected him in a negative way. It's the equivalent of sheltered kids going away to college and finally having their freedom. I absolutely believe also that many people including his immediate family took advantage of his naivete. I also believe this is why for many years he didn't want to play in Atlanta due to the strained relationship with his family and "missing money".
