Ben Simmons was hyped but nobody expected him to be this good and even better than advertised. The Sixers are showing excellent potential with their recent wins. Simmons high level defensive ability has been most surprising. Currently putting up 18.4ppg, 9.1rpg and 7.7 assists and looking to have found his mid range game, will Simmons make the all star team in his rookie season?

Who doesnt want to see Giannis, LeBron and Ben on the same team?

I think if he keeps this up and the Sixers hover around .500 % at the All Star break there is a good chance both Embiid and Ben make it on the Team.

Its rare for Rookies to make it but there are exeptions.. you either have to be voted in. Like Yao. And even Joel was almost voted in last year. Or you have to simply be so good they have to put you on the Team.. like a Tim Duncan. And Ben is right now having a Tim Duncan esque Rookie Year..

Lebron didn’t even make the All Star Team his rookie year.

But It’s possible in this era for Ben since most of the remaining stars in the East went to the West (Butler, Paul George, Carmelo).

I'm not sure about how the changes to the All Star teams will work out, but i think Simmons will make it. After LBJ, Giannis, Embiid, Porzingis, Love, and with Hayward out he doesn't have much competition in the East. Drummond, Dwight Howard, even Otto Porter might be in with a chance for a spot. H.Whiteside and Myles Turner being hurt early hasn't helped their chances yet i think they have the talent to get there in the future.

Assuming Lebron is captain, does he get to pick the team?

Embiid is way more likely to make it, but Simmons has a chance too if he keeps playing well.

This year will probably see Simmons, Embiid, and Porzingis make their first All-Star appearances.

He picks from a pool of pre-chosen players. At least I think that's how that works.

If the 76rs are in the playoffs picture then yes. If they are a bottom 5 team then no

If he keeps up playing like he has, then Simmons (and Embiid) deserve to make it.

He could, but it’s going to depend on Philly’s record come January. The coaches generally like to reward players from winning teams.

Excluding his half court shots, Simmons is making 18-9-8 on 57%ts with playing defense well.

Sixers:

with BS: 103.0 ORTG 105.7 DRTG
without BS: 94.8 ORTG 104.7 DRTG

So stats-wise and impact-wise he's playing like an allstar already.

When they select ASG squads, I would love to see a team full of point-forwards:

Simmons, Giannis, Lebron, Durant, and Anthony Davis.

Vs. the field

I'd say yes, he's listed as a guard on all the box scores.

Kyrie and Wall will definitely make it, Kemba Walker and Derozan should probably also get a call up but with Lowry's slump and IT being out of action there should be two spots from last years team up for grabs.

Front runners for those two spots as it stands right now would be Oladipo and Simmons. Even if it ends up only IT dropping out due to injury I'd put Simmons ahead of Oladipo just purely as he has the buzz about him being a rookie.

I don't believe the number of players from each conference is changing in the new all-star format, just that they will no longer play for the east or west.

Assuming the number of players from each conference remains the same, his play stays the same or better, and the Sixers are at a minimum ~.500 then yes. I think the Sixers record is the most important factor. Assuming health, Embiid is probably starting but I can't see us getting 2 guys if we are a crap team again.
