How does Ryan McDonough still have a job?

From a PG logjam (Bledsoe, IT, Dragic) to a big men logjam (Bender, Len, Chandler, Monroe).
Why?!

They should have unloaded Chandler in any deal for Bledsoe, I'm sure someone would have bit eventually.

I ask the same question regarding Ernie Grunfeld.
Look to the POS owners in both cases.

Monroe is an expiring contract. I wouldn't count him as part of their core.
They basically traded Bledsoe for a late 1st and cap relief.

Because he’s cheap and the suns owner is cheap.

That's a tough one. What team can take on 27.5mil in salary in a trade without having to shoot it right back at the Suns?

Because finding someone better is hard. You could say this about 60% of NBA GMs.

He basically could've had Kyrie Irving for Josh Jackson when you consider he just gave away Bledsoe. I'm sorry but Josh Johnson is not that damn good. Not to mention they already have TJ Warren who plays the same position. In this league, you never turn down an opportunity to get a bona-fide superstar that's still young for someone that may or may not be good someday

How is a GM cheap?
The owner, sure but this doesn't make sense.

Probably meant in a way that he doesn't earn a lot of salary.

Meaning he comes cheap ie he isn't paid a lot.

McDonough hasn't done a great job, but that franchise's problems are all about ownership. Doesn't matter who the GM is. As long as Sarver owns that team they're not going anywhere.

If the Suns acquired Irving, what other talent on the roster would they have had to help compete for a ring?
2 year rental of Irving wasn't worth cancelling the rebuild during the Warriors juggernaut run.
Irving, Booker, and Warren aren't good defenders. Jackson can defend and the team needs that to help balance the roster.
Jackson has played 11 career NBA games. You're saying he isn't good already?

McD isn't terrible but as some have stated, he's running under an owner with a bad reputation.
He was just extended an additional year. Chances are he'll be allowed to do the 2018 draft and free agency. If the team doesn't show signs of improvement next year, he'll go and the team will get turned over.
If the behind the scenes chatter is true, Rich Paul is a big part to blame why things fell apart with Bledsoe.
With Isaiah Thomas, he was signed, knowing he'll be a bench guy. He then turned upset for some reason.
Dragic didn't like playing off the ball. He went public instead of giving the franchise the benefit of the doubt and ask out privately.
He's made plenty of mistakes but there are worse GM's out there.

McDonough doesn't know team construction or man management, he was a professional scout prior to GM.
Least he has advanced protection skills.

They are tanking. The key is cutting salary. This saves about $40 mil for owner. You get a bonus in business world for doing that.

You can add the Bulls to that.

Bulls probably have the worst FO in the league today, yet some of the best job security. GarPax will never be fired

Much easier said than done, unless they were willing to take on bad contracts in return. That's a lottttt of money outgoing.

The thing with Chandler is that he never should have been signed in the first place. I was yelling from my mountain, on realgm, that it was a terrible idea. Unfortunately, that was before I was connected to people and before I started using my current site to yell.

GMs get more job security treading water on potential and selling future improvement to fans. You can't quantify it. Only show good faith.
As soon as they make a big trade they will be judged on something more quantifiable like wins and losses. No one wants that kind of pressure unless the owners demand it.
The Suns GM is a weasel.
