I know we all come on here to hype up our own team's rookies, but I'm liking Lonzo's defense and knack for getting steals. Apparently his DRPM is 1.97 right now, which is 2nd among rookies behind Bell, and 38th in the entire league. Lakers schedule eases up Jan/Feb, so hopefully he can continue to build on his play.

Still think Simmons and Ball have the highest potential regardless. It's a toss up between Mitchell and Simmons right now for ROTY.

Man it's exciting looking at those 4 names. All of these guys are going to be good players. I still think Lonzo and Fox are going to be pretty good too. All in all, a good rookie class.

Five names... but yeah, at this point, that's a lock for all-rookie 1st team.
You were too lazy to look up how to spell Markkanen, weren't you

It's between Simmons and Mitchell as it stands now, with Tatum a close third. Lauri, Ball, and Kuzma all right behind them.
Great draft class.

Damn, didn't realize he was up to 21st in the PG rankings. Was something like 80th when the RPM numbers first came out.
Indicates he'll be a plus-minus monster if his jumper continues to improve.

Now higher DRPM than Simmons, 3rd among all point guards. An offseason or two of improved offensive polish and free throws and he's gonna be right up there.

I do think there might be a chance Lonzo surpasses Kuzma, Lonzo has been improving really nicely as the season has gone on and it seems like Kuzma is beginning to slow down.

Well he’s a better all round player than DSJ right now, which I didn’t expect. Whatever DSJ offers offensively is negated by his abysmal defence.

Lonzo should make make the All Rookie first team on pure impact alone. Do not need to be genius to see that his impact on the team is very high. And production was, he has been doing much better recently. Kid's going to be a very good player in the league.

Who do you think he should be in over
Lauri
Kuzma
Tatum
Mitchell
Simmons
The one that feels the most vulnerable right now to me is Kuzma. I know its only January but the other 4 seem to have a pretty good gap over the other rookies and seem pretty close to locks for that 1st team.

Voted for Kuzma and Tatum. Kuzma, I think, would be even better in a different team.

The two point guards ahead of Ball in DRPM are both second-stringers who play less than 20 minutes a game. Lonzo is leading the league among point guards in DRPM. Lonzo's DRPM, at 1.97, is nearly twice that of Chris Paul (1.02).

Re: The ROTY/Rookie Discussion Thread, Part III
I like Ball on the defensive end, but these kind of extraordinary ratings in all-in-one stats makes me question the weighting of defensive rebounding (and counting stats like steals and blocks, rewards gambling) for guards. I understand the value of ending defensive possessions with a rebound, but there's a massive difference between grabbing a contested or uncontested rebound.
Think that Ball's numbers might be a bit inflated because of the injury of Lopez as well. Not that Brook is a terrific defender but the experiment with Randle and Kuzma in the starting lineup as the 5 and 4 was disastrous, Ball's absent coincided with that stretch and therefore the on/off numbers might be influenced as well?
Someone posted this is the previous topic, but this pass is incredible.
