PLO wrote:I said that Ben Simmons rookie season is on par with Jason Kidd's best season, which in terms of raw numbers it is. You made the point that Kidd's advanced stats for that season are better, which is a fair point, but even accounting for Simmons dip in December its still arguably one of the best rookie seasons ever.

No, it’s not. Look up MJ, Shaq, Bird, Magic, Duncan... I can keep going if you’d like.

For the record, in the one and done era, it’s basically impossible for a rookie to have one of the best rookie years ever. The above guys we’re very seasoned and thus able to make a much more significant impact than today’s rookies.

Simmons is having one of the better rookie seasons of the past 15 years, along with Griffin, Lillard, Tyreke and KAT.

Stylistically they're actually pretty similar players. I think comparing the two is quite OK.

Definitely okay to compare them at similar development stages. Hell, it’s not even ridiculous to think he’ll be better than Kidd one day. He’s just not better than prime Kidd today.

Also, you don't see me jump on the main board or on your board and attack you or Celtics fans for making much much much more dubious claims or comparisons vis a vis Jayson Tatum. It was you who decided to attack me in this thread, not the other way around. I also pointed out the fact you haven't pulled up any of your own on your own board for some of these claims about Tatum, but decided to go after a 76ers fan making a much more plausible claim on the main board, which is also true. So you can call that trolling, but me? I just shrug, shake my had and think "Celtics fans".

You’re more than welcome to counter anything you disagree with on the Celtics board so long as youre respectful. And if you posted your opinion on Simmons on the Philly board, I wouldn’t have bothered because fan bases deserve spots where they can espouse ridiculous things in peace [i wish other Celtics fans observed this in the Fultz thread, for the record].

On the general board, though? I’m free to debate whatever topic someone posts pertaining to the subject. And I’m sorry, but I don’t find any comparison of peak Kidd to Simmons plausible, so I will debate it.

I posted the link to the Pelton article re: best rookie seasons but whatevs. Fair enough you've made your point you don't think peak Kidd and Simmons are comparable, obviously I disagree but possibly at this stage we should just agree to disagree.

Oh my god there's people that seriously think Ben Simmons is as good as peak Jason Kidd... Jason Kidd who was 2nd in MVP voting. Jason Kidd who drug scrubs to the Finals. Jason Kidd who is one of the GOAT playmakers in league history. You have to be 12 years old...

What does this have to do with anything?

Also, speaking of pretty rich, your board ain’t much better. Hell, someone posted this and then preceded to say that Simmons was on par with peak Jason Kidd!

PLO wrote:Not sure which sets of fans have the worst circle-jerk re their rookies: Lakers or the Celtics.

Irony is a funny thing...

It is a funny thing especially when Celtics fans think Jayson Tatum should be ROTY and earlier this season (in terms of advanced numbers), you have analytics guys like Kevin Pelton (a noted non 76ers fan) writing articles as to Why Ben Simmons Might Be The Best Rookie Ever

It is ironic that you've jumped on some posts on the main board that have a lot more plausibility to them than, for example, claiming that Jayson Tatum is the new Doctor J, posts of which is pretty rife on the actual board you are a dedicated mod on. Still, however, at least the mods on the Celtics forum are representative of Celtics fans as a whole, got that green-eyed myopia thing going on.

What the hell are you talking about?

I haven’t seen a single Celtics poster on our board say Tatum is a sure fire KD/HOFer or whatever. If they have they’d be in the very small minority.

But yeah just make up things to suit your dumb agenda.

Why don’t you go back to posting about how Tatum is close to his potential again.

You think Ben Simmons is as good as a runner up MVP. You said that. I basically started the Simmons is the next all timer bandwagon on here when I said he was a better natural passer than Lebron and Grant Hill 2.0 a few years ago. This is delusional though. You know nothing about basketball bro.

Alright lets clean this thing up and stay on point. The last page or so has kind of turned into a pissing match between what fan base is dumber. Who really cares what some people may say on team boards, lets keep this thread to rookie discussion. I'm all for back and forth discussion and arguments, lets just keep it to real discussions.

Damn, Lauri Markkanen is going to break a lot of 3pt records. He is already breaking a lot of them as a rookie. He has also shot 50% from 3s in his last 8 straight games and on a HIGH VOLUME as well. The last time Steph Curry did that was 2 years ago.

Never seen a big guy doing this ever.

He's at 45%+ since coming back from resting due to back spasms (16 games now)

And 50% in his last 11

Last 5: 21.4/8 on 70% TS (55% on 8.4 3pa)

He's been so good. Doesn't look like a rookie most of the time.

Dillon Brooks with 19 points on 6-8 shooting and just in 27 minutes.

Brooks isn't going to be an all Star or anything like that, but as a 2nd round pick he is showing he is going to be a solid rotation player and that is a huge get from a 2nd round pick.

Say it all the time but I don't think it can be said enough, this class is just ridiculously deep.

Mitchell with another 23 point night but Utah lost by 19 points with DM getting 2 assists and Rubio getting ZERO assists. Utah with 10 assists on the game. That's horrendous.

I know Mitchell is good offensively but in a re-draft Lonzo over DM all over again. As for Lonzo's ceiling being Rubio, good god mates. Where are all these haters now? 0 assists and 2 turnovers for Rubio. That is not Lonzo-esque.
