This is pretty cool.

I just analyzed TORs books for 2018/19... looks like a tax bill for sure.

The "save" function exists precisely so you can share these situations with us. Otherwise, we can't replicate.

It doesn't let you decline Jokic's option then max him. Since that's what's going to happen we should probably be able to do that.

For Philadelphia, can you please add an option to include:

2017 Rd 2, 6th pick, Jonah Bolden
2017 Rd 2, 20th pick Mathias Lessort

I don't know if Lessort is coming over in 2018, but everyone expects Bolden will. No idea what their contracts would look like, but I'm guessing you would know.

Great job on the site by the way!

It doesn't allow you too offer a contract + the roster charge.

Only returning the cap space after you sign the free agent

You can sign them as free agents. The unsigned picks listed specifically within the Capulator are first rounders, because first rounders can (and are the only ones who can) be signed by the rookie scale exception. Second rounders, you can sign for whatever you like. You can also sign pretty much whoever you like. The list of names that comes when you type in potential signees names is tied to the players DB that forms the foundation of the rest of the site, and it's massive. You can sign Lee Nailon if it makes you happy.

That is working as intended, as that is precisely what roster charges are for. The minimum NBA roster size during the season is 13, which is why you have cap holds to get you up to 12 pseudo players when calculating cap space, because this allows you to then in theory sign a guy for the minimum as number 13.

Explained further - remember that at its core, the salary cap number is the total amount you can spend on players. Obviously it has evolved to the point where there's so many exceptions that this is not in practice the case, but theoretically it is. So theoretically, you have a total maximum amount you can spend (let's call it $100 million for argument's sake). Let's also say a roster charge is equal to $1 million. And let's say you've got $80 million spend on 11 guys already with all other exceptions and cap holds renounced. You will thus get a roster charge of $1 million, taking you up to $81 million total. And so for that twelfth guy, you have $19 million to spend, rather than $20 million. Because if you could spend the full $20 million, you'd then be capped out at $100 million but still with only 12, and you'd be stuck.

Just bumping this to tell everyone that, in honor of the eve of FA officially starting, contracts expiring, and the season officially changing, the Capulator has shifted forward a season, such that instead of displaying 2017-18/2018-19/2019-20/2020-21, it now displays 2018-19/2019-20/2020-21/2021-22.

I will be doing my very best to keep the data updated on a day-to-day basis over the new few weeks as things get crazy, options get declined/picked up, players get waived, players sign(though this will be dependent on valid salary info being available), trades go down, etc.

We always had this time of year in mind when developing this thing, so I hope you all use it and have fun with it :)

Also, if you'd still like to see 2017-18, you can go to

www.shamsports.com/capulator?startYear=2017

P.S. I didn't ask for this to be sticked, but it was for a while, so maybe it could be again?
