Hypothetically what would it take to get Kawhi Leonard?

Post#1 » by TANKNATION » Mon Feb 26, 2018 8:27 pm

I know chances are real slim Spurs would actually trade him but if their relationship really is drifting apart like the media says they are, I'm as to curious what would it take to pry him away from the Spurs?

I'm thinking of a package that revolves around: multiple first round picks, a young upcoming star and a good veteran that could help right away.

I think the Spurs are asking themselves how they can get Kawaii Leonard back on their team right now.

I think Philly can make it happen with Fultz, Covington and a couple of high firsts (the Lakers' pick, for instance).

I wouldn't trade for Leonard until we know what's going on. Never trade significant assets for a guy with ghost injuries.

That's too good of an offer. I'll throw in a free Davis Bertans.

Seems like often times it ends up being less than you'd think

A top three pick and pieces to go with or a current top 5 player.

In other words, never going to happen.

Youre right that current top 5 player is never going to happen.

I could see him get moved tho.

Jimmy Butler is probably the most comparable example. While not quite as good as Leonard, he was a similar age, position, and contract. I Could see Leonard going for a top 10 pick and a 2 nice players. Or maybe a top 10, top 15, and a nice player.

Yeah, if you're a playoff team that's 1 piece away from a championship. If you're a tanking team, 0 chance you give up the future for Kawhi unless you're absolutely certain he can turn your franchise around.

LA, Philly and Boston would be all over this.

LA trades 2 of Kuzma/Ball/Ingram
Philly with Fultz/Covington/LA pick
Boston with Brown or Tatum/Sac pick/Memphis pick

Agreed, those are the teams who would be the most aggressive.

Denver could make an interesting offer and if Phx gets a top 3-5 pick and package that with jackson and chriss/bender maybe thats enough as well

Very good young prospect + top 3 pick I think. Love is worse and went for a well-regarded #1 pick and filler.

If Spurs want to retool, maybe Beal + 1st?

Other ideas:

Tatum + Sac #1

Porzingis + NYK #1

Kuzma + Ingram + #1

Booker + lightly protected Miami #1

Depends on if the Spurs have any "leverage" or how much I should say.... Lol

He will be worth less than most of us think if the rumours are true and he doesn't return this season. Even though he never had any serious injuries before but he was missing like +10 games on average before, wasn#t he?

Kawhi + Mills to Detroit, for Jackson + Leuer + Toliver expiring + 1st.

Detroit form their monster front court trio: Dre, Blake, Kawhi, and starting caliber PG Mills.

Also he is a free agent after next season, kind of a similar issue to what teams ran into with PG(minus the LA rumor)
