Guys had to carry a team full of role players (excluding Love who has missed a bunch of games) to the third seed in an Eastern conference that has been pretty darn competitive this season.
Harden on the other hand has a loaded team. Not taking anything away from him tho, the guy has been a beast as well. But just look at LeBrons numbers. Absolutely absurd.
Love missed 2 more Games than CP3
But nobody will remember this. And you know why? Because Love sitting out just happened, and CP sitting out happened a couple of months ago. Whatever happened lately, matters 10x more and that's how this award works.
We only pay attention to the final 2 months national TV "statement games", instead of reviewing the season as a whole body of work. We ignore consistency, we value last impressions. Every time there is a big national TV game, is the time I normally refrain myself from posting something kneejerk here like "wow what a performance from XXX I think he is firmly 2nd and have a shot at 1st place". I didn't do it right after Harden's 60pt triple double game, because that's just one game in the middle of the season. MVP is not won through a 60pt triple double game.
Right before the half time Lebron had a couple of plays where he completely gave up on defense. Why didn't LoveMyRaps come to this thread and post "Lebron should be ahead of Harden" at that time? Because the moment didn't feel right. It only feels right after the Cavs beat the Raptors. It only feels right to post here after LeBron leads the team to a monumental comeback and eventually setup Love for the game winning 3.
Unfortunately it only takes one kneejerk poster like LoveMyRaps to post here to bring out a bunch of Rockets fans to defend their guy, some might look insecure. Nothing to feel insecure about. The award is stonewall Harden's, even if Harden sits out every game from now and Lebron wins out the season averaging 50/15/15. There is really nothing to talk about here on who wins this award.
Btw, I still have AD above Lebron for #2, simply because he never had a month of 'give up basketball' and Lebron is still taking plays off to conserve energy which sets a bad example and partially contributed to a league bottom 3 defense, while AD is flatout leaving everything on the court. We need to reward the hard working guys who has been consistent over the course of the season.
