I want to be that point guard or better yet, lead guard when I have the ball in my hands," he said. "I want to develop that trust with the coaches and the players around met that I’m going to make the right play when the ball is in my hands, especially at the end of games. I want to show that I can finish it out."

He will never be a leader after what he did to nick young. His image is tarnished forever.

Could be just me, I don't think anyone cares about that anymore.

DLO seems like a guy that says the right things, but it doesn't translate on the floor.

You newer know how people mature or what they get out of some events. Oladipo did it. But I wouldn't count on it.

.. yeah a bunch of young players like RHJ, Okafor, etc probably don't care.

But guys like LeBron, PG, CP3, etc, who are actually in the spotlight and have wives/baby mamas, they very much care.

Right. I'm not even sure if anyone really cared about it back then.

Had D-LO said he DOESN'T want to become a leader for the Nets, he would still be getting bashed. The same people who are trashing him for wanting to be a leader, would still be trashing him for not wanting to be a leader.

Threads like this are just an excuse for people to come in and bash the guy. It doesn't even matter what he says. People are so predictable.

He's always said the right things in front of reporters. The problem is he lacked the work ethic to live up to those words. He thinks growth and development just happens naturally. It takes blood, sweat and tears.

His rookie year he said he was trying to come up with a pre-game routine. Kobe, arguably the hardest worker in the league, offered to help him, but he turned it down. That's just an example of what I'm saying. He says the right things, but then he doesn't back it up.

Now he says he wants to be a lead guard. Okay DLo, what are you going to do about it? Are you going to hit up your skills trainer? Reach out to other elite guards for advice? Run drills in the gym for hours and hours everyday? Stop talking and start doing. That's the first sign of maturity.

Yeah, I'm sure his teammates are telling him about their off-court activities as we speak.

Yea thats why he was eating by himself at one point, the national media was talking about it and then was dumped by Magic because he saw that the lockeroom doesnt like him.

Yay?!

That's really not saying much and if I'm the Nets I care about him improving his game n ability to make his teammates better than trying to assert himself as the leader. Also going to be tough to do with Caris & Dimwiddie playing for the same spot.

because they're all hooking up with strippers after every road game?

why does everyone ignore that in wide lense shot of that scenario, nick young was the douche bag.

He's one of the few players that has what it takes to be a top 10 player. But he has 2 big knocks against him. I dont see why he can't be a Harden/Ginobili/Conley remix, but he needs to drastically improve 2 things-
1. Speed
2. Defense

Yeah I mean if you want to cheat on your wife/girlfriend on the road then I agree I wouldn't go and tell DAR right away.

But I don't think him doing that two years ago means he'll never be able to lead an NBA team.

He needs to figure out his knee issues and train accordingly. If he adds some bulk without recurring knee pain he can be a solid big post up PG who makes few mistakes and still shoot well. I hope it goes well for him. He's hitting RFA soon.
