Which injury or series of injuries robbed fans the most of greatness? Sorry, CP3 won't make it

I'm not familiar with anything before the 90's, so for me it would be Rose. Although I think it's questionable that he should have even won an MVP, there's no doubt in my mind he would have been a perennial All-star in the league had it not been his injuries.

Grant Hill would be number two.

Oden for me.

From all other players, we were able to at least see (for a short period) how great they were (or going to be).

Rose. We are talking about a guy on the #1 seeded team who was the #1 seed two years in a row and it changed the entire landscape of the east since then which is why it has been a free ride for Lebron. A healthy Rose on the Bulls at least makes Bulls vs Miami/Cleveland have some good battles even if Rose never won.

Oden.

Everyone else on the list enjoyed relative success and made a name for themselves as great players but it was all short lived. We all remember Roy, Walton, Rose, Yao, Penny, Hill as great players. But we'll never know how good Oden could've been, his early injuries were definitely most devastating to him than others were to them on that list.

Seeing Yao go down really sucked globally for the nba. Yao was playing at a peak level before getting hurt. He gave the eventual champs the lakers a scare in the playoffs without tmac before he broke his foot.

Considering Walton won a championship, league and Finals MVP in a 1.5 year stretch I don’t see how this is at all close, let alone the fact that Walton still became an impressive role player just based on sheer IQ which shows how amazing he could’ve been with a functioning body.

bird: back. 1985. Still the 2nd best player in the game after that. 2 fused vertebra in 87 and still a top 4 basketball player for a couple years when he played. they dont even fuse vertebrae anymore in most cases.

No back injury and the celts win 2-3 more championships. len no len bias death in 1985 and no bird bad back and the celts go down as the best team in the 80's and likely win titles in 90,91,92,93. Thats how good they were. and still young enough to run the table that long.
like i said, its a full rebuild.

Uh...just reading those names makes me sad, had all of those guys been healthy, 2000 decade playoff basketball would have been even more awesome than it already was, to me the last decade was the best ever whatwith teams with different styles of play, still retaining physicality and hard-nosed defense, not everyone raining 3s and Bigs still being very important and not just Rimkeepers. I understand that math and how teams have finally figured out the value of 3 pt chucking, but I miss post-play a lot. It is no fun watching every team run 100 PnR every game and chuck 3s...

Playoffs (20p / 20r / 5 / 5) : Duncan(3), Kareem/Walton/Shaq/Ewing/Barkley (1)
Playoffs (30p / 20r / 5 / 5) : Duncan(2), Barkley(1)

Gotta go with Rose, since then Lerbon got a free ride through the ECF. A healthy Rose would guarantee no consecutive finals trip for Lebron. Rose injury was a game changer for the NBA.

I went with Oden....only because he never had a chance.....most of the other guys had some seasons before being derailed.....and Grant Hill did some good things after coming back.
