How does this trade work?

DEpends on the timing. The longer it drags the less leverage the Spurs have.

The Lakers are working on acquiring a first round pick from a middle of the pac team. They've had discussions with Denver. Wilson Chandler + 1st for future 2nd. Then trade Ingram, Lakers future 1st, Chandler + Denver future 1st for Kawhi. Lakers then trade Ball and Deng to the Suns for future protected 1st. Then possibly sign James and George with cap spaceLineup afterwards:

G - filler
G - George
F - Leonard
F - JAMES
C - Lopez or Randle

I believe that the Lakers will be more desperate if PG13 is signing with the Thunder for two reasons.

1) Lebron will want to play with another superstar and with PG13 out of the picture, I would not be surprised if Lebron pushes the Lakers management to get the deal done asap. Moreover, he is 33 years old and he cannot wait to be patient as who knows how long his prime will last.

2) If PG13 stays with the Thunder, it gives other teams some confidence that if they trade for Kawhi, he might stay after 1 year. Moreover, the Lakers did not trade for PG13 last season thinking that he will come to LA one year after being wit the Thunder. All of these factors basically suggest that nothing is certain in the NBA and you cannot think a guy is going to come to your team one year from now even if it seems like that is his intention. So this is good for the Spurs in the sense that the price of Kawhi in the trading market probably went up a bit with PG13 staying with the Thunder.

Of course, all of this is different if PG13 decides to sign with the Lakers. I am not a particularly big fan of the Lakers but this has important effects on the Kawhi trade.

Paul George is going to a party tonight (the night free agency opens) in OKC with Westbrook. And holding a TV special about his offseason. He's obviously staying in OKC.

Multiteam trade if the Lakers are smart about it. One of the young guys needs to be attached to Deng, the best time to do it is during the Spurs trade. Suns, Kings, Hawks and Magic are most likely teams IMO.

Yea that's my thinking. It's not an easy trade, and certainly doesn't give SAS a lot of options of who they want. Maybe they are happy with your idea. If not it gets complicated.

Lakers need a third team and or separate trade to get rid of Deng.

Randle (S&T) + Kuzma + 2020 1st is our best offer.

I think that LeBron signing with the Lakers is much more important than PG signing in giving the Lakers more leverage in the Kawhi trade. If the Lakers sign LeBron and they have cap space next year for a max FA it keeps open the threat that Kawhi would leave whatever team he's traded to to join LeBron with the Lakers so other offers for him would be much lower. Of course, there's always the danger that Kawhi gets traded and ends up liking the team he's traded to enough to resign with them like what may very well happen with PG. But the incentive to join a Lakers team with LeBron as the top dog would be much more enticing than one with PG, for Kawhi and most other FAs (except for maybe Kyrie).

Depends completely on whether Lebron decides to join the LAL prior to a trade. As long as Lebron is outthere Magic will have to prove to him he can build a team.

As long as Lebron remains unsigned they have leverage but as soon as he does they lose it all. Philly won't be willing to pay a premium if it isn't used as enticement for Lebron. If Lebron signs with the Lakers and he puts his entire faith in Magic well then Magic can slow play it or even think about signing him outright in 2019.

i dont think spurs will trade with the lakers, they want to send him to the east.

I have a hard time accepting that the shadow goes to LAL all by himself and throws away his age 34 season patiently waiting 1 more year to get another star, going into his age 35 season. If he goes by himself they get taken out in the 1st or 2nd round guaranteed.
