Do you understand what I was saying? They want a premier player, Kyrie is way more accomplished than Tatum/Brown. They 100% need to give him up to get Kawhi.

What he's saying is that Brown/Tatum is nearly as accomplished as Embiid/Simmons, so that may have been the minimum Spurs would have accepted for Kawhi. Maybe not Brown, though. Tatum I'm guessing yes.

In retrospect they should have traded Simmons for Kawhi, they would have won the title this year with Embiid & Kawhi plus whatever else they could have traded for.

Spurs really prefer their winning culture thats been well established since the Duncan Era. If they trade a star they want a star to come back - or as close to one as possible. I just don't know why the Raptors didn't offer Lowry instead considering we have FVV and Wright and Lowry is more expensive and older. Kawhi and DeMar would have been so perfect!

LEonard and Embiid would have been a better fit, Leonard’s a better player than Simmons, and he is still close enough to age with Embiid they could compete for years.

Until than Simmons goes before embiid. But neither go for a one year rental coming off a major injury limited to 9 games.

At that time, Simmons had more value than he does now. I almost think the trade could have either been a straight up swap, or because of the control of Simmons, the Spurs would have had to give up more to make it happen.

Also, I get this is the cool hindsight thing to revisit right now, but if Simmons does improve and implements a jumper in the next year or two, I'm not sure that one year of going to the ship with Kawhi is better than team controlled Ben Simmons for 7 years.
