OT - The Time JJ Redick Discovered A Woman Caged Up In The Back Of A Car

Very bizarre story, I really hope it wasn't a human.
Sports IllustratedRedick said he was doing a photo shoot for MrPorter.com in New York City, and when the shoot was over, the company had a car to come pick him up.
"So the car is like facing ... sort of perpendicular to us. And I'm like, 'Sir, I think there's a person in your backseat.'
"And so he lifts the blanket up, but like towards the window, so that the blanket is facing up, so we couldn't see cause we were on the sidewalk—perpendicular to the car, not behind the car. And he's like 'No, there's nothing in here. There's nothing in here.' And he closes the blanket back, and then he closes the trunk.
"And as he's like walking around to the front seat, a head pops up. [Bamba starts to laugh.]
"It's the—no, this is not funny. There's a back of a female's head. She's got blond hair, there's a ponytail, and based on the size of the box or cage that this person is in, it's like either, like a very small human, or a child. And I'm like, 'We all saw it, right?'
"So he drives off, and then Kylee, now at this point, it's like, 'Are you sure? Was that a dog? Was that a dog with like a very fury tail?'
"And she's like, 'No. The reason I said there was a person is because I saw movement in my peripheral—out of my right eye. So I turned around, and the blanket was moving. So when I looked back, like half of a human face came out of the blanket. I saw a woman's eyes, woman's face, woman's blond hair.'"
Redick said he hadn't heard back from the police at the time of the recording of the podcast.
"It definitely was not a dog, I will say that," Redick continued. "It was a human being in the backseat of his car, under a blanket, in some sort of box or cage. That's my story."

Damn, JJ should have forced the issue real time... he could have saved a life or something... now nobody knows what will happen.

Human trafficking illustrates the depths of human depravity. If JJ saw what he believes he saw, I can only hope the victim finds sanctuary before irreparable damage is done. Pains me even to think about it.

he said his friend was going to call the FBI? Do something in the moment you coward. Could call 911 while trying to stop the driver from leaving as much as possible- take down the license plate...

Honestly I listened to the podcast and JJ seemed like he was trying really hard to believe it was something else (as most people would I think). I guess he probably was just shook at the time and didn't think it through.

Err... I'm picturing someone kidnapping a lady and putting her in a cage in the backseat of a car but then deciding to take an NBA player to a photo shoot before dropping off the victim and this isn't exactly adding up.

I couldve sworn that I read an article stating that a NYPD rep said that he could not find any police report with Redick's name on it or anything that resembles this story. Dont know if that has been debunked or not.

Yeah, I was listening to this yesterday. Bamba just chuckled and said 'That's New York for you' or something. But in his defense, that was an odd ass story to begin a podcast with.

Monday morning QBing is easy but when you got your wife, kids and a life maybe you got enough reason not to play super hero with a crazy man if this indeed was the reality. If he'll put a woman in a cage bound up he'll probably have no issue cutting, shooting, or taking a bat to you and your wife to keep that under wraps. He likely had some sort of weapon as well. Reddick obviously had some doubt which gives pause, but did follow up with the cops. Probably handled it like the vast majority of people would have in the same situation.

I wasn't saying to fight the guy, although that would be an option if he has a human locked up. Not blaming him for not doing that, but calling 911 and trying to get a police officer on the scene/ on the tail of the car is the least someone could do.

I thought the same thing, why didn't she just scream? But human traffickers often drug their victims and threaten to kill them/their families- maybe that's why she couldn't cry for help? We'll probably never know

Coward is pretty harsh and he must have called 911 to have police involved since the post said he hadn't heard back from the police yet. I would assume he did that as soon as the car left. That's not something you really sit on.
Lot of sick people out there, even if the guy didn't have someone in the car if Reddick confronted him with such and sinister allegation or tried to stop him from leaving that alone has the potiental to escalate into violence and violence between grown men always has the potential to end end death.
I would like to think I would intervene as well and demand to see under the blanket but it's very reasonable IMO to handle it like he did especially if your wife is there and you have kids. It wasn't as if he knew for certain there was a woman in there or that the outcome was for her was imminent death. If you see violence against a women in action and it's clear I think most people would intervene.

Let's just hope it was a dog or the other half of a freaky bondage couple that got off on the excitement of taking their sex hobby around a NBA celeb. If that was the eventual conclusion that wouldn't even shock me.

This sounds like one of the cases in that Unsolved Mysteries show that used to play. That show scared the **** out of me.

Being about 8 years old when it came on in the 80's I can think about the music today and still get chills.

How could the driver expect no one to notice the young girl in the cage in the back of the Escalade?
Sadly, it probably was a young girl. Either his sister-in-law or his wife claimed to see the young woman's face.
There is human trafficking like this going on all around us. Tragic. Hopefully law enforcement tracks down this vehicle.
