This is probably a way over-dragged discussion about equal pay vs equity pay.

Why should WNBA players get paid more when the league doesn't make any money?

Its nothing more than a charity project of the NBA. If any other business failed to make money for 20 years, it would be disbanded.

Been saying this about the porn industry for ages. Those studs deserve a solid raise. Just the thought of hard working chaps like Mandingo & Lex Steele being so severely underpaid drives me nuts.

i don't get the constant need to further humiliate women/wnba players

they KNOW that their league doesn't make any money. they just want to get paid equally with nba players even if it's impossible

A DJ for a local college radio station may have done the same work as Casey Kasem, but Casey Kasem got paid millions and the kid at the radio station got close to minimum wage. Do you not understand why? Casey Kasem had a worldwide audience. He had millions upon millions of listeners so ad revenue was through the roof. He brought in money so his radio station had both the desire and means to pay him so much. If the kid working at the college radio station demanded equal pay, he'd get fired. Why? Because that kid isn't bringing in anywhere near that type of ad revenue. The college radio station doesn't have the budget to pay him that much and even if they did, he hasn't shown that he is worth that much.

I've mentioned before, I'm very thankful that the NBA is keeping the WNBA afloat. It is a positive image for my basketball-loving daughter. And I do wish it would be promoted more. However, media companies make decisions on what to cover based on what is going to most positively affect their bottom line. It's definitely a catch 22 situation where it's not popular so they don't cover it and because they don't cover it it's not popular. Still, your argument seems to be ignoring basic market principles.

I want to report your comment for being the dumbest I’ve ever read on realgm.

It's a tough situation. On one hand, they are a new and developing league, so naturally it will take time to "establish" itself. The MLS hasn't really established itself any more than the WNBA, but at least they aren't trying to be the premiere league for their sport and have brought in some big names lately.

The way it gets publicized is foolish, there isn't pay inequality here, just a league that makes significantly less and plays 3x as many games. What are they realistically asking for? Pay equality with female European leagues? That sounds like a rational business decision to me. The WNBA has gained some press lately and seems to be doing a good job of promoting itself...at least make them the highest pay female players in the world if you really want to be the NBA of female hoops.

I didnt watch the movie and Im not interested enough to Google in, but how much profit does the WNBA make per year?
